ORPHANS CLUB.

OPENING OF SEASON. ENJOYABLE EVENING SPENT. The first session of the second ye.ar of the Paeroa Orphans’ Club was held at the Soldiers’ Club on Wednesday night. There was a large attendance of members, and visitors from Te Arolia and Auckland. The proceedings opened in the customary manner by the investing of the president (Bro. P. Williams) by Bro. C. E. Andrew?!, who delivered the Orphans’ ancient charge, after which Bro. Williams was handed the gavel and requested to conduct the session. After the National, Anthem had been sung the president extended fraternal greetings to all the brethren present, and expressed the hope that the second yea ; r of the club’s existence would prove more enjoyable and more beneficial than the first ye.ar. Since last year a new piano had been purchased. The club'funds showed a credit balance of £24 12s sd, which, with subscriptions paid -that night, amounted to £62. The position was very satisfactory, and augured well for the future. Hearty thanks were due to the Thames brethren for their attendance and kindly presentation of the musical portion of tlie programme. In addition to the orchestra, the following contributed towards the harmony of the evening: Bro. E. H. Northcrdft (Auckland), and MessnS E. Watson, W. Scrimegour, J. Galloway, A. J. Briggs,, and W. Beech. Mr J. Margison acted as accompanist. Each performer was heartily encored. After the supper adjournment, the president gave a particularly flue dissertation on “Imagination and the Force of Will-power.” His remarks carried many home truths, djid he was heartily applauded and congratulated on his address.
