RAINFALL.

PAEROA FIGURESi FOR MAY. WET MONTH RECORDED. The rainfall figures for May for Paeroa, as supplied by the local Public Works office, show that rain fell on 24 days during the month, the heaviest fall being on May 20, when 2.08 inches were recorded. The total rainfall for the me nth Was 9.41 inches, which is an increase: of. 4.70' inches on the corresponding month in 1925. The rainfall for the first five months of this year amounts fo 19.92 inches, which is in excess by 8.72 inches of the total for the five; months in 1925. The prevailing wind last month was south-westerly. The thermometer averaged 56 degrees, the lowest reading being on May 17, when it fell to 41 degrees. HAURAKI PLAINS FIGURES. HIGH TOTALS RECORDED. The. rainfall for the month of May on the Hauraki Plains, as recorded at the Lands Office, Kerepeehi, though not as high as in other has only bee;n exceeded on two occasions since, the record was commenced in 1912. Last month’s .total was 8.86 inches, rain falling on 22days during the month.

In April, 1923, 9.76 inches were recorded, and in March, 1915, the total was 10.67 inches, though in May, 1924, the total was only .45 of an inch below that of last month.

The heaviest fall was on May 20, when 1.48 inches were recorded. On the following day the; fall totalled 1.30 inches. The first six days of the month were wet, 1.96 inches, being recorded, including 1.25 inches on the 3rd. Other wet days include the 10th, 12th to 16th, inclusive, 19th to 22nd, inclusive, 24th to 28th, inclusive, ,and the 31st.

The average for Maj' during the last 12 yeaj-s is 3.94 inches, and tire; total to date, this year is 17.90 inches.
