NGATEA HALL SOCIETY.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Ngajea Public Hall Society was held on Tuesday evening, Mr G. T. Dayidsxm presiding over Messrs S. Phillips, C. McTaggart, W. J. Clare, G. Phillips, A. Cleaver, C. W. Schultz, W. McDuff, J. Costello, C. Bertelsen, T. A. McClean, E. Martin, and S. Tarver (hon. secretary). ANNUAL REPORT. The annua.l report and balanceshett, as already published were read find adopted. APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS. The appointment df officers for the year resuulted in those of the past year being re-elected as folliows: President', Mr G. T. Davidson ; secretary, Mr S. Tarver ; vice-presidents, Messrs W. J. Calre arid W. McDuff; committee, Messrs C. W. Schultz, G. Phillips, H. Dent, S. Phillips, C. S. McTaggart; auditor, Mr E. Wanton. A vdte of was accorded all those who had assisted during the past year, the auditor (Mr E. Walton), Mr J. Reid, the outgoing officers, and the Press being specially mentioned.
ADDITIONS TO BUILDING. In accordance with hisi notice of motion Mr Schultz brought up the question of. the addition of a ladies dressing room' and a supper’ roomHe said that these were necessary t° keep up to requirements. The additions were urgently required,' and would meet .with public appreciation. He did not think the proposal but of reach. Mr Clare agreed that the need was obvious,.but to his mind the time was inopportune. The proposed additions would pot. work in with ;a larger s'cheme. Mr W. McDuff supported .the motion, and 'said that the public should be catered for. There welre less conveniences than in any other hall in the district. Mr Schultz, suggested that a leanto ishould., be erected at the side of the present building. He was willing to give, his assistances Mr Bertelsen urged .the erection of a ladies,’- dressing room at the stage end of the hall. MF McDuff said that with free labourthe' proposed: structure would not cost much more .than £so’. Mr Davidson suggested utilisingportion of the stage for the dressing room. The matter was discussed at great length. Opponents of the proposal advocated wiping out the present liability of £3OO-odd before undertaking 'any fresh liability. Mr Cleaver said that the present dressing, room . was a disgrace. The provision of the'additions was due to the patrons of the hall. It was argued .that the expenditure would noti inflict a-hardship on the. guarantors as the insurance was .almost double the bank overdraft. It was decided that the committee go into the matter. , ■ Mr Cleaver also .moved that the meeting pledge its 'siupport and assist the committee if it decided to have the erection done by voluntary labour. At the committee' meeting Messrs McDuff, Clare, and Schultz were deputed to act. Mr Clare offered to bring his tackle and raise the entrance end of the hall, which had settled down, if offers of voluntary labour were forthcoming. The offer was accepted with thanks, a ; nd it wats: decided to hold a working bee r On June 3, King’s Birthday. UNRULY BEHAVIOUR. Complaints of smoking in the hall 'and of unruly beJiavipur, at entertainments were miade, and it was decided that the names of, future offenders be sent to the police for action.*'
PICTURE RIGHTS. It was decided that tenders 'be called for the right to screen pictures in the hall for one, two, and threh years. CARETAKER. The calling of .tenders for the position of caretker was .a.utlibrised. A suggestion was made by Mr D.'ividisori that in future cups and saucers should not be hired to users of the hall. Breakages were frequent, and when these were' changed to ushers of the hajl there were complaints. Users, of the hall could hire crockery from outside sources, and the charge for the hall hire could be reduced. Mr Me Duff opppjsed the suggestion, while Messrs McT’aggart, Clare, .and Schultz supported it. ' The matter was deferred.
