PRIME MINISTER’S VISIT.

STATEMENT BY THE MAYOR. ARRANGEMENTS FOR TO-MORROW. On the eve of the visit of the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) His Worship the Mayor was interviewed in connection with the arrangements for to-morrow, and he made the following statement: — “I desire to ask the burgesses to co-operate to the fullest possible extent in giving a generous welcome to the distingufehed visitors who will be in Paeroa to-morrow. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Hon. Minister of Lands, and important officers will also be present; and the heads, of neighbouring local bodies will be here with deputations. These people will a,ll. be our guests, and it will, be our privilege and duty to give suitable hospitality. All arrangements have been considered in detail by a joint committee of the Borough and County Councils. “This committee has not found its task eaisy, and it is recognised that there will, be plenty of criticism of its actions; They have, however, tried to do their best according to their judgment and their resources, which a,re strictly limited in regard to accommodation and finance. An intelligent reason can be given 'for every detail, and i'f anyone feels critical I trust he will take the trouble to inquire from the. committee the. reasons for the arrangements. I shall be in my office. at the Borough (Ih.amberts: on Friday evening from 7 to 9 o’clock, and will be glad to meet anyone who wishes to discuss .the matter. - “Paeroa. has been, generously treated by the Government —the post office itself being an evidence oY this fact. A visit from the Prime*Minister is a rare event for our town. He is ojir national leader, a,nd with his colleague is worthy of the best reception we can give.

“Daring my term of office I» have, on behalf of the people, constantly asked for Government help and consideration, and on this important occasion it is tny sincere desire, that we should give a,welcome that is at once generous, .enthusiastic, and genuine.”
