GAMES ON THE PLAINS. LAST SATURDAY’S PLAY. Despite the wet weather that prevailed during the earlier part of the week Saturday afternoon was fine for the second matches of the ’ second round of the Plains club competition, and the fields were dry. /Owing to the storm the s.s. Waipu was, a day late in arriving in the river, so the launch that was engaged to bring the West players from Patetonga. to play Waitakaruru was not available and the match had ,to b® forfeited. Under the circumstances the union may permit this match to be played ;at the end of the season. Taking this match as a forfeit, the points of, the teams ,a,re: Turua 12, Ngatea 10', Waitakaruru and West 8, Kerepeehi and Coast 2.. Juniors: Ngatea 10, Kerepeehi 8, Turua and West 4, and Waitakaruru 2. The school matches for the Terrill Cup commenced on Saturday, when the Kerepeehi team defeated Turua at Kerepeehi by 8 points to 6 and the Ngatea, team defeated the combined Pipiroa, Kopuarahi, ; and Orongo team by 18 point's to 3 at Kopuarahi.

Pentecost Coast.—James, McKenzie, Whelan, P. Clark, E. Hooper, S. Chapman, J. Know, W. O’Neil, F. Taylor, W. Knox, E. Hale, D. Dal'gety, B Gill, S. Dalgety, R, Walters. This match was played at Kopuarahi on an unmarked field, aa the goal-posts were not set at right angles to the fences some confusion resulted. The play wais clean and, easy, and though the visitors, won by 15, points to 6 there no; that much difference demonstrated in the strength of the teams. Play commenced at 3.15 p.m., Snd in the . latter part of the game, the light became bad. Shortly after the kick-off the Turua full-back mulled and McKenzie, scored a try for Coast which was not converted. Play was open, and ranged up a,nd down the field. In the second spell Daniels broke . through when play • was in Coast’is territory and commenced a. movement which fernainated in a try evening up the scope. After some close play in Turuafs twenty-five a series of long kicks, terminated in Johnston kicking a penalty goal for Turua. Shortly .before t half-time Coast w,as compelled to force; The second half opened with Johnston securing a try by fast 'following up. More, open play In neutral ground, and. some good work by O’Neil compelled Turua to force. In the last round Turua soon had another six points added by .two tries by Madgwick. These were .not altogether the result of hard work, as the element of luck entered very largely.. Play was; up and down the field*, and ;ire,ar the end of the ga.me a iong kick was followed up by Clark, (Coast), and a, try resulted. Mr J. Kicld wias referee. \
NGA.TEA 1 ,V. KERPEEHI. Kerepeeihi.—L Baggs l , Adlum, Te Moananui, Murphy, Smart, Baggs, Kidd, Killgour, Horekino, Parata, Ruzich, Belshami, Hira. Courtney. Ngatea.—-Wilton, McCollum, Molloy, Buchanan, Pilkington, Nicol, Birkenhead, Ha,wera, Spencer, Hutchison, Cook, Cleave, MlcPherson, Duncan. The ground «at the. outset w,as in fine order, but a.j short while after the ’commencement rain, fell, and the ball thereafter was- very difficult to h'andle. Ngatea scored sobnl after the start of the game, and Kere’peehi replied almost immediately bu't failed to even , the sc pres by not con verting. The'game reserved itself-into a series of attacks by and spores' were frequent. Except for a few sol’d efforts on the. part of Kerepeehi, this side was never dangerous, Smart, however, played a fine game. 'Uhe Ngatea hacks showed to adv'apta.fc® in several passing rushes, the opeiAing try being the result of a fine con-* certed effort, Molloy storing. Buchanan showed fine speed in a try scored under the posts. Tiipa, Kerepee.hi wing, was unlucky not to score as. a result of a fine solo effort. Tries were scored for the winners by Molloy, Buchanan (2), Dune,an (2) and Hutchison. Molloy converted three of the tries and kicked a, penalty goal. Hira scored Kerepeehi’s try, which wag not converted. Mr J. Rteed was referee.
In the junior gam© Ngatea defeated Kerepeehi by 11 points Ito 5. Ngatea scored soon after the commencement and Nicol converted his| own try. A penalty goal by Nicol followed. Kerepeehi then settled down to recover the advantage, S. Reti scoring and Carter 'converting. The next - try went to Ngatea from McKercha' r Both sides attacked alternately, b at no further score resulted.
