CLEVER MODERN COMEDY
“THE MAN FROM TORONTO),” PRESENTED BY DENIS KEHOE. The return visit to Pa,eroa of Denis Kehoe and his talented company was enthusiastically received .at the Gaiety Theatre on Monday night, and the audience was not slow to accord the company a hea,rty welcome. On the two previous visits Mr Kehoe presented delightful. Irish folk plays, but a departure was made on Monday night, when the audience was treated to an up-to-the-minute. modern comedy entitled “The Man from Toronto.” with Denis Kehoe in the title role. He gave a breezy characterisation of Fergus Whimbush, the man from the wide open spaces, who preferred true happiness to wealth with a “c'a,tch” in it, and as Mrs Leila Caijthorpe, the fascinating widow, masquerading as he: own maid. Polly Perkins, Miss Fi ances Kayher was winsome, and a clever actress. Good support was given by Ronald Riley, in the role of Mr Priestly (Nunky), who appeared in the triple parts of uncle, guardian, a i nd legal advisor to the widow, and acquitted himself in fine style. Misses Gwen Dorise (Martha), Miriam Osborne (Ada Whimbush), and Messrs B. Beeby (Bobby Gilmour) and J. V. White (John Whimbush) completed a* well-balanced cast. The play was bne of a comedy df errors, apd was well sustained, refreshing, and amusing. The return of thia talented a,hd versatile company to Paeroa will he awaited with keen anticipation.
