Cold and showery weather prevailed on Saturday afternoon, but notwithstanding the elements there was a. fair attendance of the public at the domain; The match se.t down for decision w.as the senior-game East v. Netherton. A delay of nearly half an hour occurred, during which time the East supporters were making a.n attempt to put fifteen, men on the field. As the time to go on drew nearer, the half-dozen or so East players who were stripped de'cided to forfeit the match, but, nothing daunted, the captain of the team (H. Thorp) rallied round, and finally the team took the field with ten men. A visitor to the town volunteered and was accepted to fill one of the vacancies. Obviously the game was a. very uneven contest,, and the visitors never extended themselves and were able to score whenever .they desired. Some resentment was shown by the public at the exhibition of Rugby provided, and not a few hard words were said against the Ea,st club for not seeing that a full team was available. All .’credit is due to the capt,a.in and his ten men for the fignt they put up, and also for at le,ast making an attempt to provide a game for the spectators.
