HAURAKI PLAINS UNION. MEETING AT NGATEA. . I ■ ■ • ■'* '• The Hauraki Plains, Rugby Union met on Thursday evening last, Mr JCcistell.o presiding over a full attendance. NON-PROMOTION'OF JUNIORS. The fact that the Kerepeehi 'club sent, a full junior team t.o Patetohga 1 and only eleven seniors was brought to the notice of the union by a. letter from the Referees’ Association, which asked for a ruling as toj whether it should continue sending referees, to officiate at such matches). . Mr Thompson said tha,t the Keren peehi club could not promote juniors until the,, union made a rule compelling such promotion. He . would recommend the union to adopt-such a rule.. The officials of. ithe club had done what, they could but they could not compel men to play. The president agreed that such h , regulation was necessary. Air Thompson''mentioned that the grading of oil players by .the union was' working satisfactorily in )Pd,eiroa, but he did-not think .it wohld be advisable to "adopt; the* practice in the middle of ,a season. \lfter lengthy discussion Mr Mc- : Clean moved, and Mr Berney second-, ed, tha.t a rule be embodied to the. effect that no club could have a junior team in the competition unless it had' a full senior team in. the field., Mt Thompson stated that the Kerepee.hi had not been bolstered up, as there were ample seniors registered, but the difficulty was to get. them to travel.. None of the present juniors hh.d been regraded. / The motion was carried unanimously. ' REGRADING OF PLAYER. An application by the ,/Turua club to. have A. Charteris regraded from senior to junior was granted. -

MATCHES. ] The Thames Rugby Union acknowledged 'receipt of challenges for the Peace Cup and Birch Cup,; and forwarded particulars o£ a junior challenge competition. ... ‘ It wits- decided-to enter, a challenge, and to. suggest that the match be played bn the same date as the. Birch Cup or Peace Cup. match. ' SUSPENSION OF PLAYER. t During the Kerepeehi-Turua.-match the referee had occasion to suspend a Turuua, player, E.,- A. Booth, ifbr ;unsportsnia.nlike, behaviour. The matter was considered by the • Appeal Committee and the Player wa£ us " pended for two weeks-• for his, behaviour ami-three weeks for shearing when ordered off the field. A. protest against the severity ofthis punishment was 1 entered by. the Turua club; and the union was asked to .reconsider the -matter. The president stated that the Appeal, Board, was a, properly constituted body: . It was a.question whether the management i committee should interfere. . Several delegates urged that the matter be reopened, and "pointed, out that the offender had. not. been heard, nor 'even'the referee’s evidence heard--, A motion to reopen, the: matter, was carried, and a. deputation of ten- sup-porters-of the .Turua; club-, was admitted. . I . ' , ' The referee, 'Mr Gs -Davidson, outlined the incident. In a loose- scrum .he noticed Booth in-a threatening attitude. He did'not'hear any objec; tionable. language. A. McClean, W. Madg-< wi ck, and E. L. Walton should he r.sked to act. . . .’ ■ „ SCHOOL COMPETITION. The rules- of the school;' competition were submitted and adopted, and-..’.it was decided that the competition for, the. Terrill Cup commence oir May 2&. CAPS FOR WINNING TEA I ,MS. The question of the union providing caps ,for the members of the
teams winning the sjeiiiOr and junior grade competitions was brought up by Mr Dent and discussed .at length, it finally being agreed to get Quotations. ■ ■■' ;
A AND B MATCH
Some discussion took place on the advisability of having an A v. B ma,tch to select the representative players, and it was decided that the. representative team play a possible representative team on June S. The Kereepehi club was granted permission to' play the Nethertp-n Juniors on Saturday next. ' The calling of tender's; for the transportation of delegates to meetings of the.'Thames Vajloy Rugby Union and of ,the’representative playeys to ihte-r--unibn matches was authorised, and the donation of £8 made to the Thames Valley Rugby Union’s tour-; ing ifunud was approved.
CLUB COMPETITION'GAMES/ ' LAST SATURDAY’S PLAY. • The first of the matches of the second round of Plains inter-club football were played on Saturday in fine weather. There was very little wind. The West, teams travelled by car to Turua, but oil. arrival some of the players were ■ unable to take the field and a, senior grade ma,tch was played by a composite -team. A friendly game was played between 10 West juniors and the Turua juniors, resulting in a win-for the full team by 16 points .to 0. Despite the weakness of the Weist senior? the game was, one. of the fastest of the season, and one of the hardest. Within a, few.-moments of .the start. West secured three points by 'Jea.ns breaking through- from a loose - forward rush for Garry to score ■in the corner. The. wholes game was a.’hard forward one, and play ranged from- one end of the field tp the otner,« ■neither side holding the advantage for Hong. . WMle. play was near West’s line the. ball went to H. Elvin from a, throw-in,' and he dived over, later converting. The pace was- maintained right through the match, play being confined to the forwards;. In. the last quarter West obstructed in front of the. posts and H.' Elvin sent the ball over the .ba'r, making Turua’s, score 8- to; West's 3. . Mr -J. Kidd w.as referee. COAST V. KEREPEEHI. When the Coast team .arrived" at. Kerepee.hi if was -found that some ;of the ’members had deserted at Ngatea to watch the match'.there. .The ; game was. therefore 'forfeited, and most of the players went to Ngatea to watch the YVaitakarui u game. NGATEA V. WAITAKARURU. This match was: marred by many incidents, and a hard struggle resulted- in a win for the- Waitakaruru team by six points, to three. 'The first Quarter provided very even exchange;/ •;ofTerritory, and ncitjier'.side was,'talking qhances..with. the opposition; Play• • was' hard.iand the "numerous casual-, ties suffered by Ngatea had a severe effect on the team. Waitakaruru, on the --.-. other > ha,nd, .were well .trained and fit, playing with much determina-' 'tion.- In any case, there would, havp. Tjden', despite ‘Ngatea’s misfortune, doubt, as -to the ■ result, ■had .'tire teams as. they took the field played'right through. Ngatea drew . first- blood; ‘scoring'’from a, "penaltykick by Molloy.: Half-time founded with the score unchanged.,. ;
; -On commencing the second half; the ball, went ■ from a scrum’ to. Molesworth,. who, -.running, strongly, beat Buchanan; who tried to intercept, and with a"splendid effort snored between, the. posts. The kick was not'allowed. Waitallaruru’s next score' from -a scrum in the corner, when C. Stretton .'gathered' up the ball,; and ---crossedthe. line.- Tne kick wa,s not successful - -Duncan (Ngatea) a,nd Clark (Wal- ' takaruru) were ordered off during the progress - of. the game. ■- \ Mr <D.- G.
