BEHAVIOUR OF PLAYERS. . Attached to the referee’s report on the East v. West senior match on Saturday was a letter from the referee (Mr E. Smith) advising that he regretted he had found it necessary to order F. Thorp (East) and V. Carrick (West) off the field far arguing. The game had been willing, and both players concerned were very keen. In his opinion the players mentioned had been penalised sufficiently by being ordered off, and he suggested that a, caution as to future behaviour would be sufficient. Thorp and Carrick, who were present by request, said that there had been considerable argument. When the referee spoke -.they had hold of each other, each thinking the. other had the ball.' They expressed regret for the. incident. -Mr J. M. Crosby moved, that the explanation be accepted, and that both players be cautioned. Mr T. P. Vuglar moved as an amendment that no further action be taken.. He said that there were no two players under the union who were better sportsmen, or who- played a harder game for the sake of the. game. Seconded ' by Mr R. ■ Hodson, who supported the remarks of Mr Vuglar. In seconding the resolution Mr J. H. Walmsley’ reminded the meeting that at the commencement df the season the union had agreed that, rough play or unseemly behaviour would not be tolerated, and a? the co-operation of -the Referee®’ Assoication had been sought it was the duty of the union to support the referees. He knew the two players concerned, and would endorse all the .previous, speakers had said about their sportsmanlike qualities. With young, players in the field it was necessary to adopt a firm attitude and ma,ke an honest endeavour to keep, the game clean. The- amendment was] then put, arid lost, Messrs ,Vuglar,, HodsonJ and Arnold supporting it. The resolution, that the players, be cautioned, was carried, Messrs Crosby, Walmsley, Wilson, Slyfield; and Rackham. voting for it. FIRST AID SERVICES'. 1 Mr E. Neil wrote suggesting that ajl local,, senior and junior players, should be asked to cctatribute at least threepence, each playing Saturday, and the money handed to Mr T. D. Davies in recognition of the first-aid services he rendered on the field, and to go towards defraying the 'cost of neieesary first-aid Appliances.

It was resolved that ths matter was one for the dubs to moive in, and that as| the union supplied, all the necessary appliances it was not considered necessary , to take'further notion at present. < . ' EX-LEAGUE PLAYERS. C. Bailey, .applied for registration with the. west juniors. '. On the motion of Mr Walmsley, seconded by Mr Wilson, i.t was resolved that the application be refused until such time as; Bailey received a clearance from, the N.Z. Rugby Union, as he ha.d'’ previously played .the League code. Mr/Hodson drew .attention to the fact that a,n Eas.t senior* G. Radford, who had also been a League player, had played in two matches for Eaist without having obtained ,a clearance from the parent body. The general impression seemed to be .that so long as. aji ex-League player signed a declaration before a J.P. before returning to Rugby his l.iabiltiy .ended. He asked whether the union Would allow .the games in which Radford had played to stand. After some discussion it was resolv,ed to take no action in regayd to the two matches, but that Radford, be not allowed, to take part in future matches until: he. obtained ,a clearance from the.parent body. .( ’ A PLAYER' SUSPENDED. Mr Rackham drew attention to the fact that J. Smith, a registered senior Suburbs player, for/whom application ’for regrading to junior had been refused, had taken pa,rt in three junior games, contrary to instructions. REGRADING PLAYERS. The following regrading of players from senior, to junior status! was . approved : West, E. J. Pennell; East, H. Moore; Suburbs, L- Saunders ; Netherton, L. Capper and E. J. Fleming and Son being accepted for the season. TOWN V. COUNTRY MATCH. Mr Hodson suggested that ,as the senior competition was well advanced the union might consider the advisability of arranging/a towfi v. country match to be played a,t Paeroa. He considered that if this ’could be done it would prove a, good .attraction, and would also assist the selector in choosing a representative team. . Mr Crosby thought it would upset the routine, and a Saturday could not very well be sparred at the present stage. Mr Walmsley agreed, h n d reminded the meeting that out of the 15 Saturdays left of the season there were the Peace and Birch cup matches to be played, in addition to .the club competition, Charity Saturday, Thames Valley fixtures, and the banner competition. Finally it was resolved that the.' ma,teh be left in the hands df the chairman, secretary, and Mr Hodson, with power to act after the decision of the.
