I- < / monthly board meeting. routine business. The monthly meeting of the Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held at Thames on Monday, the chairman (Mr W. E. Hale) presiding over the following: Messrs, j. W. Da,nby, W. J. Hall, G. Death, A. R. Robinson, P. E. Brenan, W. C. Kennedy, HL Lj- Berney, J. Lange, Rowe, and G. Tonge (secretary). ADVANCE ON SUBSIDY. The Health Department advised that .the Minister of Finance had apprbved/of an advance of £2OOO on account, df subsidy being made to the , board. SUPERVISION*’ OF BUILDINGS. The technical inspector, Department of Health, wrote acknowledging receipt of tenders for the erection of the isolation' block and steam f 'laundry. The writer stated that he did not consider it would be sary to appoint a clerk of works, provided the services of a good man could be obtained to look after the foundations:. Periodical visits would be paid by the technical inspector, and the contractor should be given to understand at the outset .that poor material or workmanship would be condemned. , NATIONAL HOSPITAL DAY. The chairman of the National Hosh pita! Day movement, Dunedin, advised that Wednesday, May, 12, being the anniversary of tl\e birthday of Florence. Nightingale, had been set aside in order to'turn .the attention of ,the whole community to their own hospital,/ so that people .might become bet- - ter acquainted with' its aims ahd ideals.. It was recommended that the boards should make the function of a simple and attractive nature, such .as an offiical visit of the Mayor Councillors, including the chairmen of I ■kindred bodies ; also an invitation to ■ the senior schoolgirls to visit the hospital and nurses’ home, where they would be. entertained by the matron and nursing staff. ‘A short'-address; might be given by some, speakers acquainted with the advantages be secured by‘ a nurse’s training. PRISONER PATIENTS. .The .. Hospital Boards’ Association wrote advising that as from May 1 hospital boards would be paid at the rate of £3 3s a ,week in respect of prisoner patients. COUNTY CONTRIBUTION. ‘ The Ohinemuri County Council forwarded a cheque for £261 Bs-5d in payment of the quarterly contribution .due to the board. MEMBERS ELECTED. The returning officer, Ohinemuri County Council, advised that -Messrs A. R. Robinson and W. C. Kennedy had been duly, elected as.the council’s on the board. [\ The chairman extended congratulations to the members-. ik COMPLIMENTS EXCHANGED. The chairman said that, as. it was the last meeting of the board he wished to take .the opportunity t<f thanking the members for the. help - and co-operation .that had been given him as chairman. He snid that as Mr Berney was retiring from the - board he would move, that, the.board record its appreciation of the services : rendered. Continuing, .the chairman said tha : t Mr Berney had ’ rendered consistently good service, particularly in regard to matte ns connected with the district homes. He was sure ’ the /members would greatly miss thejr colleague. The resolution was carried with acclamation. . \ - /Mr Berney acknowledged the tribute accorded him. Messrs Death and Ha,1,1 paid a tribute to the work of the chairman; On behalf of the ’members' Mr Kennedy thanked the chairman for his kind, references. • He wished those ' members who had to fight an election good luck, and expresesjd the hope ■ that they would again be returned ■ to carry on the arduous duties of board members. , . COMMITTEES. The following committees were set up: District Hornets; Messrs Kennedy and Hall; Hospital, Messrs Rp-we and Robinson. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £lOBB 8s 8d were passed , for payment.
