Although ,the local Rugby Union started the season with a strict rule relative to the time of starting matches, the senior match was nearly haff an hour late in commencing on Saturday afternoon. A’s ,& consequence the game was finished in semi-dark-ness, and it was almost impossible to distinguish the colours or the players.
The Secretary of State for the Dominions, Mr L. C. M. S. Amery, states that 3127 persons were granted assisted passages to New Zealand from Britain -during the last ’four months,. He believed that generally about 5 to 10 per cent, of: the applicants, were rejetced on medical' grounds

It.fe not generally. known that the old Manawatu Railway Company established a New Zealand speed record for locomotives. In a test with an engine a,nd two cars a speed of 64 miles an hour was attained.
Something definite should be done to prohibit spectators from crowding on to, and very often over, the side lines during the football matches. Despite the fact that a wire has been erected back from the line dozens of people 'ignored its existence, during the senior match on Saturday and crowded on to the line to the detriment of the players and to .those few spectators who were decent enough to comply with thei request to keep back. >oh three occasions, on Saturday the referee stopped the game while the. crowd' was ordered back off the line.
It was stated at a. meeting of the District Highways Council in Masterton recently that, there were quite. 400 empty benzine tins, on the, main road between M.asteirton and Featherston, a.nd the hope was expressed that the proposal to make this practice an offence on "the part of motorists would be successful.
The Paeroa Rugby Union is moving towards providing the ordinary facilities for the public at the domain. On Saturday a number of seats were available, and both grounds were clearly marked out and beflagged. The provision of a table and seats for the Press and official timekeeper* was a.lso much appreciated.
