WORK OP TII® MONTH. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The Hauraki Plains county engineer, Mr F. Barham, reported to the. council meeting on. Tuesday last as follows : — “Hopai West Road.—l have inspected this road, and find the position as follows : There are two issues. (1) Forming a one-chain road .along the. northern boundary of section 4 and the eastern boundary of sections 3.1 3.2 to Mr Neate’s, gate- In the event of, a drain being formed on the opposite side of the road ,to the present drain, I would recommend it being formed outside the road boundary, owing to the size of the present: drain. The road to be properly formed and graded from side to side and all adequate culverte and bridges provided. (2) Continuing the road in a direct line to Poua,rw,a Road along .the northern boundary of section 3.1. If this is done it will be, necessary to fascine about 40 chains at the western end of the new formation and clay at the rate of about 150 yards per chain. Thirty chains may be clayed without fascining. Side drains will be necessary, also proper bridges and culverts'.” On Or. motion the clerk was- instructed to'''forward this report to the Chief Drainage Engineer, in accordance with, his request. “Pekaneka Road. —Good progress has been made with the metall in gAbout 40 chains of metal ha,ve been laid, and I hope to get it rolled and blinded this week. “Wilson’s Road.—The, first coursje has bean completed, and all but about 30 1 chains of the, second coat laid 1 . Blinding is, being kept up with the face of the work as- far as possible. With fair weather the road should be completed about the middle of next week. As soon as this road and Pekapeka Road 'are finished T propose concentrating on the maintenance of all metal roads ‘n the county 'requiring .attention. Good supplies of red metal are coming to hand. “Tractors. —The Cletrac outfit is on Wilson’s- Road, and: the Fordson is at work dressing up metal roads generally. “Piako Road.—With the. exception of 10 chains of final, iseal coat this road is now completed. Several depressions will be made good, also some weak places, before work is taken over.” INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The county -inspector, Mr R. H. Cameron, reported that since his appointment he had been unable to secure a house in Ngatea, but hoped to do so within ten days. One building permit had been issued, and several isettleJs had been warned to procure licenses. Twenty drivers and five' heavy traffic licenses had been issued during the month.
