MOTOR CARS COLLIDE.

ACCIDENT AT KARANGAILLKE. SLIGHT DAMAGE RESULTS. What might have been a serious accident was narrowly averted in the Karangahake Gorge on Saturday afternoon. It appeals that the Pae-roa-Waihi service car was returning to Waihi from Paeroa. with a, number of passengers, and when near the turn at the railway-' tunnel a big car, travelling a,t a good speed towards Paeioa, swung round the corner and narrowly averted a head-on collis/m. As it was, the. right-hand front wheels of the cars became locked before the vehicles came to a standstill. The only damage to the, service'emconsisted of bent mudguards, but the other car sustained a. damaged wheel, burst tyre, and twiistedl mudguardst Had the car coming from Waihi been .travelling at a reasonable rate of speed the collision could, have been easily- avoided, as; there was ample room on the bend -tor the two vehicles to pass.
