NETHERTON RIDING.

PETITION TO MR. H. J. H ARE. NOMINATION DECLINED. On Friday evening Messrs R. L Roberts, E. Jamieson, and E. Townshend waited on Mr H. J. Hare at his residence, Thames Road, Pperoa, and presented a largely signed petition begging him to aI.W himself to b© renominated as Netherton riding member on the Hauraki Plains County Council.

The petition pointed out that MiHare was thoroughly conversant witli the of the riding, and that a number of progressive movements, undertaken during his term as councillor were under way and it was earnestly requested that he would see them The petition also made eulogistic reference to the good work he had done.

Replying to the deputation Mr Hare said that, he felt honoured ah receiving the petition, a,nd it was very, gratifying to learn .that his efforts had met with the approbation of the ratepayers. He regretted sincerely that he could not accede to the request to ol'fe/ himself for re-election. Hite business and private affairs were s,uch that he could no|t spare the time to attend to county matters,. In thanking the deputation Mr Ha,re said tha,t he still had a stake in the county, and he Would do what he could to stimulate and safeguard the development of the Netherton
