Prime Minister will visit Paeroa, for the purpose of opening the new post office after the closing of the South Seas Exhibition early in May. The Hon. J. G. Coates will advise, the definite date of his arrival. a,t Paeroa as early as possible.

With the approach of dusk last night .a ruddy glow was to be seen in tlie wescern sky, and as the night advanced the sky became more brilliantly illuminated. On inquiries; being made, it was learned that a large pea,t and swamp area in .the Piako county south-west of Mr Grey ThbrneGeorge.’s property a;t Tirohia, had been burning for some, days previously. Fanned by the strong wind yesfterday the fire ispread in extent, bu,t it is understood that no serious' damage has resulted.

Messrs W. J. Towers and R. W. The Synod was presided over by the Ven. Archdeacon MacMurray, commissary of His, Grace the Archbishop, and every member of the Synod, both clergy and laity, answered to the roll call. As the deliberations were in camera, no information as to the resiult is at present a, Vf| iL able for publication. In open Synod a resolution was carried with reference to the election of a bishop; delegating the powers of the Synod: to the Archbishop’s commissary, (subject to the conditions arrived at in camera. A Diocesan Trust Bo.ajrd, which shall have all the powers, of a Diocesan Standing Committee, was also elected. When the Synod rose all the members assembled in the proCathedral Church of St. Peter, and standing before the altar sang ;a Te Deum, and afterwards knelj: to receive the Ven. president’s) blessing before dispersing.

Following a fine record of successes during the season G. Wells, the, young local runner, by winning the quartermile and securing second place in'the 100 yards handicaps a.t the Katika.ti athletic sports on Wednesday, brought further Laurels to Paeroa.
