SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
TURUA. Mr J. Mules presided over an attendance of 27 at the Turua meeting. The annua,! report wag presented and adopted without discussion, and the eld committee, with the exception that Mr F. Loader replaced Mr Aberliart, w.as elected. The committee now is : Messrs J. Chapman (chairman), S. S'. Murray, F. Loader, C. Dale, T. H. White, S. G. Williams, and A. Walker (secretary). The expenditure; for the year was, £24'o 12s 2d, and the,credit balance remaining was £2B Ils 7d, an increase of £9 Ils 6d over the previous* year. The annual report dealt at length with the wtork of the past yea,r. It mentioned that the roll number was 155, and the grade of the school, had been advanced to 4A. The average attendance during the past year was 142.8 and during, the past month 151.5. The school funds had been augmented during the year by benefit picture entertainments given by Mt F. Olsen,' dances organised by Messrs Schmidt and R. Watspn and by the committee. Thanks were, due to those who had assisted. A successful. picnic had been held at New Brighton and a sports meeting in thedomain. Portion of the playground had been sprayed with bitumen, .a culvert 'had been installed; sundry fences erected, and trees A crop of hay had been sold and the money voted to the library account. KAIHERE. Twelve householders attended the meeting at Kaihere, but owing to tine > state of the weather the were hurried .through, so that the people could get home, before the roads became, too slippery. The' following were appointed a committee : Messrs Mclndoe (chairman) F. Bird, T. McLoughlin (secretary), and Mesdanies Benny and Smallfield. PATETONGA. The largest liouseiwdlers’ meeting on the Plains; wais that at Ratetonga, where the attendance numbered over forty. Mr J. F. Mayn presided. The chairman’s report mentioned that the roll number was' 64 and the average attendance during the past year 60. Tliere had only been three failures in the whole school during the year. The inspector’s report was excellent, The committee had had trees planted, a. saddle shed* erected', and a rockery constructed during the year, .and a.ft'er two* years’ efforts' had a school dental clinic established on the Hauraki Plains, and a School dental officer appointed. Efforts were' being made to have a teacher’s residence provided, .and the Education Board’s foreman had visited the district and inspected 'sites, and also” houses with a view to purchase. A residence would possibly be erected in the near future. The’credit of the school fund account Was £l6 9s 6d.
A very interesting and instructive add'iiess was given by tire school dental officer, Mr F. G. Stockwell. The following were appointed a committee': Messrs J. F. Mayn (chairman), J. Fitness, R- Mitchell, J. Reid, and G. Lindsay. Arising out of the diacussio.il at the householders’ meeting it was decided at the subsequent committee meeting to ask the County Council to havie more signboard's; restricting the speed of motorists erected, and to considei the question of establishing a hot cocoa service and extending the horse paddock. It was decided to approach the Education Beard concerning a motorbus. (service for young scholars from the western part of the school district. KEREPEEHI. Householders of Kerepeehi were evidently satisfied with the past administration of the school, as only one person other than the i etiring committee attended the householders meeting. . The' retiring committee, Messrs- J. H. Nicholson (chairman), W. Thompson (secretary), R. Carr, W. Herkt, and W. Shilton, will; therefore carry on for another year. The expenditure for the year totalled .approximately £lO7, .the credit balance being £22-odd. Considerable, expense had been incurred in a vain endeavour to eradicate a swam of bees in the roof. During the winter months a hot water service was maintained, donations being received for the purpose and odd sums voted by the committee. Fifty alluminium cups had been provided by the fund for the use of the children. The roll number stood at 108, and the average attendance during the past year w,as reduced to about 94 on account of sickness. Efforts would be made to have- a motor service commemced in tlie near future for the children residing on the road from Cartel's corner to the school. KOPUARAHI. The attendance at Kppuarahi Was poor, only ' nine householders being present. The retiring committee, Messrs W. E. Hale (chairman), El C. Harwood, C. ,H. Lawrence., J*. G. Miller, and D.'j. O’Carroll (secretary, was re-elected. The expenditure during tlie year was small, and the credit balajiice was increased' from £34 11s 6d to £52 9s Bd. The roll number had fluctuated considerably,' due to the arrival and departure of families of sharemilkers, but the number was now 66. Accommodation and staffing were .adequate and satisfactory. PIPIROA. The committee appointed 1 a,t the Pipiroa meeting (Comprised Messrs J. Porter (chairman), E. C. Marshall (secretary), E. Keane (treasures), J. Galvin, and J. Clark. These were the' only oneis present at. the Householders meeting, and beyond rea,dins the balancesheet, which showed a credit of £2l, no business was; transacted;
