COUNTY ELECTIONS.
HAURAKI PLAINS CANDIDATES. ’"'several contests probable Nominations for seats on the Hauraki Plains County Council close on Monday next at noon, and interest in the probable contests is growing,, It is, difficult to ascertain who the. contestants will be, but, the indications' ,are that .there will be several •'■elections. It is very unlikely .that the county chairman, Cr. J. C. Miller, will be opposed, and the chances of anyone beating him are very remote. Patetonga will probably continue to be ■represented by Cr. J. F. Mayn, a.s the indications are that he will not be ; opposed. Cr. W. G. Hayward (Horahia) apd Cr. H. J. Hare (Netherton) are-not seeking re-election. It is rumoured ■that two well-known Piako Road settlers will go to the poll for the Horihia seat, and that there will be a contest in Netherton. Mr J. W- Neate, of. Hopaj West, hais announced his intention, of again contesting Cr Parfitt’s seat for the Pipiroa riding, and Mr E. Walton, late ' county clerk, will contest the Ngatea riding seat with Cr. T. McLoughlin. It is also understood that, C'rs. C. W. Harris and W. Madgwilk will encounter opposition in . Wajtakaruru • and Turua ridings, respectively. „■ *". The position, in regard to Kerepeehj -is difficult to. ascertain. Some time ago it was definitely stated, that C). Nicholson would be opposed, but now there appears to be a, doubt. One settler is frequently mentioned, but he is also spoken of .as a candidate for .the Turua riding. ’ For the three seats, on the Hospital Board previously held’ by Messrs ( W. ' E. Hale, Kopuarajii (chairman of, the board), G. Dea ; tlr, Netherton, and H. L. Berney, Waitakaruru, it is under'fttood .that there will., be several candidates. . In addition to the. sitting members it is understood that Messrs ■ E. Walton and C. Parfitt, may also be candidates 4 * The proposed Paeroa hospital will .'probably be an election platform plank. > So far no other eandidatei than the sitting member for the Thames Valley Power Boa'rd, Mr. W. E. G. Willy, has been mentioned. - As yet active campaigning has started only in the Ngatea riding. In response to a request from the Ratepayers’ Association C'r. McLoughlin addresses the: ratepayers of Kaihere in the hall on Monday evening after the school committee election. Owing ; to the heavy rain that came on dur- ' ing the first meeting many settlers feared the state of the roadis and did not wait for the second meeting. CrMcLoughlin gave- an account of his stewardship and answered a few questions* He was accorded a vote of thanks and Mr. Walton other candidate for the seat, will address the electors next week. Apparently in the other ridings the will have ,to vote without hearing the platform of the candidates.
