HOCKEY CLUB’S SOCIAL.
DANCE AND EUCHRE. , / ■ A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The-first local, dance and euchre tournament .this; season was held at tile Gaiety Theatre last night, when a very successful- function, was held by the members of the Paeroa Ladies:' Hockey Club. The decorations of the ballroom were-very pretty, streamers-, coloured ribbons, nikau palms, and a.utumn. leaves being skillfully and tastefully entwined from the artistic centrepieses on the; ceiling to- the walls. The. many bright colours, soft-' ened by the beautiful greenery, made a pretty picture, and .the decorations reflect great credit bn those who were responsible for them. The large erbwd oil the floor was tactfully handled by’ Messrs W. Pennell and 3. M. Crosby, who a,bly carried out thg duties, of masters of ceremony.
Apart from ' the dance a euchre toiirnajnent,- in charge of Messrs D. A. Vincent and was held ill the Soldiers’ p Club. Sixty-eight players took part, and competition was very keen for the handsome prizes' which -were offered. The prize-win-ners were: Ladies, first, Mrs) J. White ; second, Mrs W. R. Wilson third 1 , Mrs, Rush. Men, first, Mr. A. Clarke; second, Jack, Pascoe ; third, Mr W. Smith.
An outstanding feature of the function wa.s .the generous support and assistance accorded the organ!sfepp by the Paeroa Rugby Union and other kindred sports bodies in the town. As a result of last night’s, effort the Hockey Club’s funds will materially benefit.
