PROBABLY TWO AT PAEROA. RECOGNITION AS A CENTRE. That the 80-rough of Paeroa is, favourably situated as a distributing centre is clearly evidenced by the following applications, which cattle before the. local) borough council meeting on Thursday evening : — The Vacuum Oil Co., Ltd., wrote, asking the- council to approve of a isi.te at Paeroa. over which the company held a,n option. It was stated that the area ,was about one a,nd ahalf acres, on which it was intended to establish two IO.OO'O-g'allon steel oil, tanks and one store, for case oil approximately 24ft by. 27ft. The erections would comply with the council by-laws and Government regulations. The company desired .to ma,ke Paeroa the distributing centre ‘'for its .products. , The council decided to. approve of the site submitted, subject to the approval; of the chief inspector df explosives, and would favourably consider the permit when further de-, tails were supplied. The British Imperial Oil Co., Ltd., wrote advising that it had sec tired a site at the corner df. Coronation Road near .the stockyardsi for the purpose of erecting bulk storage for petroleum products. It would- also be necessary :to lay down pipe, lines, from the railway lines to the tankage, and permission was sought to lay the pipes, which would be df high quality metal piping, with screwed ends. the whole of which had been tested before laying to a pressure of about 10001 b to the square inch. A letter to the company from the chief explosives inspector was attached approving of the site and erection df storage tanks subject to Government regulations. The council decided to generally approve of the proposal, and stated that it welcomed- the development and wa.s prepared to grant all, reasonable facilities; for the carrying out pt the undertaking. Permission to lay down pipe lines on public streets would be considered when the company submitted detailed proposals showing exactly were it was desired to toy the pipes, KERBSIDE PUMPS. In connection with -the erection of kerbside pumps wiinin the borough, it was resolved — “That where permits arc granted, applicants, be required to lodge detailed plans of the proposed tanks properly drawn to scale, showing their exact position, one copy to be retained by the council. “That the whole installatino shall comply with the Gcvernment regulations and the by laws in relation to storage of dangerous goods. “That the license be endorsed with the 'following provision: ‘No petrol shall be left in the visible of the :rump when the latter is not in use, and any other provision as recommended by the. Chief Inspector of Explosives.’ “That the permit, he granted solely during the council’s pleasure. “That the permit be an afunual one, and subject to an arnual. fee of £1 for each pump ; also that the holder indemnify the council in a satisfactory bond against the liability for any claim whatever arising from the permission to instal the. pumps for an amount of £1000.”
