Nine building permits, to the value of £2203 3s were 1 granted at Thursday night’s meeting of .the lotaal Borough Council. During the year ended March 31, 39 permits to the value of £8740 were granted.
At the annual; meeting of the Ohinemuri Acclimatisation Society at Pqeroa, on Friday night a vote eV deep condolence with the relatives of the la.te Mi- E. J. Walters, Hikutala, was carried; Several members referred to the valuable, services ■ the deceased had rendered to acclimatisation affairs, in the district for many years, and it was agreed that his demise was a distinct loss to the society. ,
The quinquennial taking, of the census will be carried , out all over the Dominion to-morrow. There, are 83 census districts, in New Zealand, and ench has a postmaster as an enumerator. The (schedules are required to be completed as at midnight to-morrow.
’Householders are reminded that nominations for the nine on the Paeroa District High School Committee. close with the stecretary at 8 o’clock this evening. Should the number exceed the requirements an. election will take piaffe at the annual meeting of householders, to be held on Monday, April 26.
The 6.40 Paeroa-AuckLajid traiff this morning was the. first use- the new main line, from the 'railway Btation across thq new bridge to a point near the. Te Aroha, Road crossing. The work of changing ovfer and connecting up the new line was carried out by three relay gangs yesterday. The. Waihi train will continue to use the old bridge and line for about four weeks.
