KAIHERE RATEPAYERS.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Kaihei'e Ratepayers’ Association was held in the Public Ha,U on Tuesday evening, Mr E. Hayris presiding over an attendance of ten members. Deploring the smallness. of the attendance, the president said that members' of the executive had called on every settler in the. district and secured a promise to attend the meeting. DRAINAGE RATES. The president said that the Lands Drainage Engineer ha,d not replied to a letter sent to him a fortnight ago asking if he would attend <a meeting and explain the increase in the Government drainage rates. REVALUATIONS. The president said that settlers had received notice of the revaluation of their Land, and some were pleaped and some, were not. If) there were to be any objections, they would have to be lodged by the 21st inst., and .it was thought that a. discussion might result in some united action. The item “lessee’s interest.” could not be explained by anyone pi-esent, and several notices produced showed the amount in different columns. OUTLET FOR DISTRICT. The question of making a move to assist the County Council in its representations to have a bridge erected a,t Ngarua to connect with the road across the. Kerepeehi blpck or to have the Puhanga Canal roa,d metalled so that settlers; would have an all-the-year-round outlet was discussed. The secretary, was instructed, to. write to the Lands Drainage Engineer at Kerepeehi a,nd ask when the Ngarua bridge or ferry would be established. LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS. Several members spoke in 'favour of candidates for seats on? local bodies addressing the ratepayers prior to the election on May 12, and it was unanimously decided that the sitting member and all prospective candidates be invited to address the Ka.ihere ratepayers. WORKING BEE; lOn behalf of Mr Mclndoe, who was not, able to be present, Mr Lynch suggested that some working bees should be organised to metal the worst pajrt£| of the roads in the district. There was not sfi very much to be done to make all the difference between a road that was passable a,nd one that was impassable. The matter was favourably received, but no action was taken.
