310VTHLY MEETING OF BOARD. ROUTINE BUSINESS. The monthly meeting of the Thames Hospital ’and Charitable Aid Board was held at. Thames on Monday, the chairman ■•(■Mr W. E. Hale) presiding over the following: Messrs J. W. Danby, W. J. Hall, G. Death, A.. R. Robinson, J. Rowe, J. Lange, H. L. Berney, P. E. Brenan, C. W. Kennedy, and the secretary (Ar G. Tonge). ESTIMATES FOR 1926-27. . The Public Health Department forwarded the forms required to be filled in showing the estimates for 1926-27. In a covering letter the department pointed out tha,t the amount to be added to 16-40ths of the net estimated maintenance - expenditure to arrive at the amount of maintenance levy in accordance with clause .3 was in the case of the Thames Bdard £640 15s 3d. For the financial, year ended March 31, 1926, ais: the aggregate subsidies exceeded the aggregate levies, the provision of clause 8 of the schedule had to be applied. In the case, of the Thames -Board the amount to be refunded to the public account was £lOB 8s 4d. BANK OVERDRAFT. The Chief Health Office advised that pending the payment of advances on account of subsidies, and the making and collecting of levies, the boa,rd might find itself temporarily short of money. Authority was' therefore given to incur a bank- overdraft during the first throe months, of the financial .year; commencing April 1, not exceeding £lOOO. 1 It was decided to make an application for an advance of £2OOO, thus saving interest charges. I CONSUMPTIVE NATIVES. The Hon. Minister of Native Affairs: wrote thanking the boa.rd for bringing under the notice of the department the Tact that there werc,three natives affected with tuberculosis. He advised that the position was being looked into. EMPLOYEFJS’ SUPERANNUATION. The Superintendent, National Provident Fund, advised that in connection, with the superannuation scheme for hospital board a standard amount of £52 per a,nnum had been added to the salary of all . those employees who “lived in” or were “kept” by hospital boards, apd as from April 1 salary deductions, should be made on the actual salary, plus £52. If a probationer, under 30 years of age, receiving £5O per annum, was assessed at £B2, deductions from her tsala,ry would amount to. £3 6s per annum. . . The secretary explained that -the £52 was*added to the salary and then the amount was deducted, but the superannuation was, based, on. the gross salary. A member remarked that it appeared to be an expensive business. SERVICES APPRECIATED. A resident-off Thames, and an expatient of,the hospital, wrote expressing her gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff for the skilled-attention she had received while a, patient a,t the institution, and stating that she had obtained a cure after many years of suffering. The chairman remarked that it was very gratifying to receive some praise now and again. - . ’ - BENEVOLENT LEAGUE: The Ha.uraki Ladies’ Benevolent League forwarded a .number of accounts for March and requested a donation. The usual grant o’f £lO was authoriced. ~ LOCAL BODY LEVIES. Arising out of the collection of levies, the secretary stated that. the. Hauraki Plains County Council had pa,id up all >i.ts levies to date. The chairman remarked that the Hauraki Plains led the way and it was up to other liodies to follow.In answer to Mr A. .R. Robinson the chairman jocularly remarked that theOhinemuri County Council was behind with its payment A member remarked that -the fact that the Hauraki Plains* County had paid up should be recorded by . the Press. -(Daughter.}. NURSE’S MAINTENANCE. The Patetonga. Medical Association forwarded a cheque for £25, being amount due towards the maintenance of the district nurse at Pa.tetonga for the. half-year ended March 31. , -VALUATION FIGURES. The Valuer-General, Wellington, advised that’ the following was the rateable value of. each contilbutbry local authority in the Thames hospital district: Thames. Borough, £801,375; Paeroa, Borough, £369,870 ; Ohinemuri County, £673,750; Thames Co.unty, £-596,601 ; Hauraki Plains County, £1,584,427. Total, £1,026,023; ILLNESS OF NURSE. Mr Brenan reported that the district nurse to natives, Nurse J. M. Jarrett, was at present seriously ill, in a private hospital at; Auckland. She had contracted blood 'poisoning during the. course of her official duties, and her condition was serious. It was. resolved to record the board’s deepest sympathy with Nurse Jarrett and to write expressing the hope of the. members that she -would be speedily restored to health. COMMITTEES. Messrs Robinson and Kennedy were appointed to .the district homes committee and Messrs Death and Hall to the hospital committee for the ensuing month.
