TURUA BERTHAGE.
COUNTY TAKES UP THE MATTER.
CONFERENCE WITH BOARD,
At yesterday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council Cr. Madgwick brought up the matter of the action of the. Thames-Harbour Board in having the berthage at Turua blocked by the driving of piles to prevent road-meta,! punts from approaching the usual, place, at the foreshore. He criticised the action as. being very arbitrary, and that the County Council was directly aJTected,' as ita contractors would in future have to pay heavy harbour' dues, go to expense. to provide facilities to land metal over the whaj'f, or obtain supplies from other and probably inferior sources. A conference was to take place in the near future between representatives of the Harbour Board and the Turua; Town. Board, and at this conference he thought the County Council should be. represented. The council appointed its chairman (Cr. J. C. Milleir), the Turua riding representative (Cr. W. Madgwick), and the engineer (Mr F. Basham) to attend.
