NETHERTON RIDING.

RESIGNATION OF OIL HARE. SERVICES APPRECIATED. Rather a bombshell wap dropped at the conclusion of the Netherton Ratepayers’ meeting on Saturday night when Mr H. J. Hare intimated that lie. did not intend to seek re-election as Netherton riding member on the Hauraki Plains County Council. He pointed out that owing to business; and private, rea.sons he was reluctantly compelled to stand down, and lie much regretted the. step that he had to take. Mr Hare said that he had entered the council with the sol© object of furthering the interests and progress’ of the riding, and in that respect lie did not feel that he had altogether unsuccessful. During his term he had done his best, and had thoroughly enjoyed coining in contact with tlie ratepayers, a,nd much valuable experience had been gained. While holding the position he had been subjected to much criticism, and it had not been possible to satisfy everyone. He felt that the constructive criticism had acted as an incentive to do better. He would continue to take a keen interest in the association’s affairs, a,nd would assist it all he could to get its full share of the good things- going. The Netherton riding wa,s regarded as a valuable one to the: council, and its interests required to be carefully watched. He claimed to have played no small part in the progress of the riding, and hoped that the present ra.te of progress would be maintained. The president (Mr T. Vowles.) said lie was very sorry to hear of Mr Hare’s and hoped, tha.t he would reconsider it. The speaker said that their, member had assisted the association loyally and well, and many progressive works in the riding bore eloquent testimony to the ability and business’-like acumen of.Mr Hare. Mr Ha.re had set a high standard for hard work and progressive measures, and his successor would find that! he had a hard row to hoe to follow in his, footsteps. Mr J. A. Young added quota of praise, and said: that the ratepayers, were to be congratulated on having been represented by such an able and efficient member as Mr Hare, and it was regrettable that he was not seeking re-election. Mr Young moved that the association record its thank's and deep appreciation of the. services rendered by Mr Hare. Seconded by Mr C. H. Potter and carried with acclamation.

Mr Hare fittingly acknowledged the eulogistic remarks, accorded him, and said that he 4 had had a duty to perform for the. ratepayers and he had used his best endeavours to fulfil his trust. He wished to tha.nk the association for the help and co-operation it had accorded his efforts, and he trusted that his successor would receive similar support.
