LACK OF ACCOMMODATION

PAEROA EXPERIENCES.

At tlie present time there is ap a.Laim’i’g shortage of accommodation in Paeroa. This may be a good sign from a prosperous point of, view, but be that as it may, it is nevertheless decidedly .uncomforta.-ble, inconvenient, and unpleasant for those who need accommodation. Since the Paeioa Hotel has been vacated, pending alterations; to. meet the requirements of the Licensing Bench, which z is to .sit (some time in June to deal out licenses to certain houses, there has been a conspicuous shortage of accommodation. There is an old spying, “One nevdr misses) the .water till the well runs dry.” That this is clearly illustrated in the case of the closing down of the Paeroja Private Hotel hats: been keenly experienced, not only by Paeroa people—principally tlie workers—but by' the travelling public. During the Easter holidays some visitors who could not sjecure lodgings were compelled to, sleep out in the open. The eiame old cry game from every known boarding house: "Sorry, but we’re 'full up.” There were about thirty regular dwellers at the Paeroa, Hotel, besides what are termed “casuals.” Most of this (lumber have found homes elsewhere, but still- there are some who. cannot find accommodation. The distinct shortage of houses to let a,dds, to the distressing situation. In consequence of lack of accommodation and the lionising difficulty many have had to leave the place, which is detrimental to its progress and very apt to create an adverse impression of Paeroa in the outer world. Thosle who can possibly make room in the’ir homes for boarders, would do well to note existing conditions and’ help to fill the necessary requirements.
