LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS.
PLAINS' REPRESENTATIVES.
CONTESTS PROBABLE.
The next local body elections will be held early' in the moritjh of May, and already interest on the Hauraki Plains is manifest. It seems likely that a great many of the s.eats will be contested, and already (several men have announced their intention to be nominated. Of the nine members, of the Hauraki Plains County Council it is thought that two Will no,t stand again. Of the othei’s, three will be returned unopposed, but in the cas,e of the remaining four opposition is expected. For the Hospital Board the county is, represented by Messrs, Hale (chairman of the, board), H. IX Berney, and G. Death, ft is got know.n if any of these members intend, to retire, but the indications, are that there will be an election, as another man has announced his intention to stand, and there is talk of the Raeroa hospital question being made an election issue. For the two seats on the Harbour Board at present held by Messrs D. G. McMillan and S. J. Laughlin there will probably be an election, as several possible candidates have been mentioned.
The present indications are that M.r W. E. G. Willy will be returned unopposed to the Thames, Valley Electric Power Board. It has been seriously suggested in many centres that meetings of latepa, yers be convened by the Ratepayers’ Associations or branches of the Farmers’ Union for the purpose, of giving the present representatives on local bodies an opportunity ,to give an account of their stewardship, and candidates, for the seats to outline their policy. 1
