KEREPEEHI SPORTS.
EASTER MONDAY MEETING.
A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING
Equestrian sports were held at Kerepeehi on Easter Monday, as in previous years, though this year the meeting was under the control of tiie Hauraki Plains A. and P. Association, that body having absorbed the Kerepeehi Sports Club, which has controlled the annual meeting for the last seven years. The l change, however, caused little alteration, in the administration, the officials being:— Patron, Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P. ; president, Mr P. R. Henry ; executive committee, Messrs H. D. Jamieson, JHands, C. Pearce, C. Loving, W. Shilton, A. J. Innis, W. HeTkt, A. McMillan, H. Hoff, W. Kidd, J. Murdoch ; protest committee, Messrs W. Shilton, H. D. Jamieson, H. Hoff; judges, Messrs J. M. Thompson and S. E. Henry; chief steward, Mr J. H. Nicholson ; starter, Mr W. Thompson ; secre-tary-treasurer, Mr W. Booth. The meeting was a very successful one, and was enjoyed by the large number 1 of Plains residents who attended. The show ground ait Kerepeeh'i is an ideal place for such an event, as, a.n uninterrupted view of the whole course can he obtained frolm the hillside.
The weather was fine, but hot bright and liot, thus the absence of shade was not noticed. The events were run in quick sequence, and the programme Was altered to haye the more attractive raceis: run early in the day. Mr A. M. Samuel, member for the electorate, was present, and opened the meeting. He also made the prsentation of the Kerepeehi Cup and the Hauraki Plajns Settlers’ Cup. To bring the horse races within the law' it was necessary to incorporate in each race some other feature requiring skill or speed on the part of the rider. Thus in some of the races one or two heirses got away well before the others, but this, did not always mean that they won the race. However, it provided more amusement than wouldhstraight-out racing with the mixed class of horses present. -On the whole the competition was keen, and some 'yilose finishes
were witnessed. The track was, in good order, and there were no accidents of a serious nature. ‘A spectator was knocked down through encroaching toe., far on .to the course when the riders were mounting, and a rider was unseated at the close of a race.
The organisation of the meeting was good, and credit is, due to the officials for the manner.in which they carried out their duties.. An pirchestra was present, but itsi music could not be heard at any great distance. A refreshment 'stall did brisk business all day. the gross takings, being nearly £BO. Almost £loo' was taken at the gate, and it is estimated that the gross takings for the day will approach £250. 1 THE BABY SHOW. There were ten/ entries' and keen competition in the two classes, of tjie baby show. In .the class-for babies up to nine months old Mrs Alexander’s baby was awarded the-first prize and also‘the championship cup for the best baby in the two classes. Mrs A. S. Fishels baby was awarded the first prize in the senior class, and the special prizes ’ donated by Nurse Sheredon ■were - awarded to Mrs. T. O’Carroll’s baby and Mrs A. Hayes’ bajby. t Dr. Lange and Nurse Sheredon were the judges. WEIGHT GUESSING. Two weight. guessing competitions were held. The live weight of the pig was 148% pounds, and Mrs C. W.
