FOOTBALL.

THE EAST CLUB. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the East Football. Club was held on Monday evening, the president (Mr T. P. Vuglar) presiding over an attendance of 33. REPORT. “We regret to state that the p.'rtt season was our worst for some considerable time. On the. commencement of last 'season we were ‘up against it’ in more ways than one. We competed in all grades, and although not successful in annexing. any trophies we were by no means disgraced ; in fact, if we had had a few more players we feel sure we would have been equal to the best competing. This season should be better, .and we ask players to start training as scon as- possible, so as to be on equal terms with other clubs when the season commences. “Thanks. —The thanks of ,the club is due to those supporters who donated trophies, .and to all who assisted the club during the ye ay. “We extend hearty congratulations to the successful .teams; and also to the members of this club’ who won the trophies. “Subscriptions—Very few players paid their subscriptions, otherwise the financial position would be much sounder. It is hardly fair to those who do' pay their subscriptions l to learn of «o many still outstanding.”" The. balance-sheet showed a credit balance of ss' 6d. In moving the adoption of the report x and balance-sheet the president said that undoubtedly the club had had .to contend with many obstacles, but he thought that with po-operation and training it would gain what it had lost' last. yea.r. It was very regrettable to learn that such a large sum was outstanding in members’ subscriptions, and he thought the sporting spirit should prevail in the club’s financial .affairs as well as on the field. He suggested that an earnest appeal should be made to players to pay up and help the club that they were privileged to represent.

A lengthy discussion ensued about representation of clubs on the management committee of ,the union bn the lines, of the notice, ot motion .by Mr C. H. Potter. Finally it was moved by Mr Vincent that the notice.of motion should be supported. In moving the resolution Mr Vincent pbinted. out that it’ was 'us well to remember that without Hikutaia and Netherton the union ‘could not ca;rry on its competitions-, and the country clubs’ were justly entitled to equal representation with the town clubs. Although not a rule, the -sys,tem prevailed on the committee last season, and, in the speaker’s opinion, it worked admirably. Mr Lloyd seconded the resolution, which was carried by 26 to -,7.
