NGATEA.

VETERINARY CLUB.

The- monthly meeting ol the Farmers’ Veterinary Club was held at Ngatea. yesterday, Mr A. J. Andrews .presiding oyer the following: Messrs C. Schultz, Rowlings, G. Phillips, C. H. Waite, and C. A. Gibson (secretary). Considerable discussion took place on financial matters. It was reported that subscriptions and fees were coming in very well, but there was still a large sum outstanding. . The list of defaulters was considered at length, and in, some cases collectors/were deputed to caJk and in other pases if was . decided that the •ac'counts; be .given to a 'solicitor for action;. , * . Accounts- totalling £37. were passed for payment whfen funds permitted. The question of whether the surgeon should be permitted to undertake the casteration of colts again discussed Members agreed that ■the surgeon should not undertake the operation unless, there was adequate assistance available.

It ..was decided that the matter be discussed a.t the annual meeting next month.

-.-Mr Waite stated .that he intended to .move at the annual meeting that settlers who had once been members but had resigned be'charged a joining fee if they wished to again became ipembers. This was necessary, in his opinion,, as some settlers resigned in the hope that they would no.t require the' surgeon’s assistance during the yea.r. If the settler was unfortunate, enough to require veterinary assistance he again becajnc a member.

■ Arising out of the discussion on the-visit of Mr T. H. Patterson, of the Agricultural department, members expressed the hope that he would ..state publicly, as he. had done privately, that the cause of some o® the land on .■the-'Plains producing lespfeed every year was due to the inadequate drainage. If this; fact was brought before ,the Lands Drainage Department'with sufficient force by the Agricultural Department much, good might result.
