PAEROA GOLF CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. , The 18th annual meeting of the Paeroa Golf Club was held night, the president (Dr. T. G. Smith) presiding over a good attendance. \ The annual report, which was; read by the secretary. (Mr R. L. Miller), stated. “The membership is now 66, of whom-42 are full playing members, 21 non-playing members, 2 junior members, and 1 .country member. ' Of these 23 are men and 43 ladies. “The club commenced its season with a credit of £l5 12s lid and closed its financial year on February 28 with a credit of £3B 4s, 7d. th its it may be seen that we have,improved our'position during the‘year by about £23. The expenditure last year was small owing to the fact-that, no new material, was purchased. ,The sci vices of a coach werfe also dispensed with. The grass cutting cost £3 less .than the previous year, and we made a profit' of £3 18s lid on the Golf Ball. • . “The greens' should show .an improvement on la. s 't year, a£ they have been top-dressed with superphosphate and scythed during .the summer months. As a result the turf has evidently been much improved. The caretaker has been instructed to pfokeefl with preparatory work. The approach to No. 1 green has been interfered with by the enlarged training track, but after ca,reful -consideration it has, been decided not to alter its position this year. ' “The June 3 tournament was abandoned owing to wet weather, as u&ual, the loss to the club on this occasion being £3 Is. “Owing to a long succession cfe. wet week-ends only one inter-club match with Tc Arojia wasi played a<t Te Aroha, and it resulted in a win for the home team. ' “In the club matches .the follow’ing were the winners of the principal events: — Ladies—Club' Championship, Mns Bray.- Club Handicap, Mrs Bray; run-ner-up, Mrs Miller. Monthly Medals : May, Miss F. Hubbard. . “The thanks of the club is due to the Ohinemuri Jockey Club for the lisp of its; dining-room and other accessories during the season; to the ■ladies for assisting with * afternoon teas and'club'matters generally; to the proprietors of the Hauraki Plains Gazette, for publishing the •results of matches, and also to Mr E.. Shaw for his courtesy and assistance. The club also wishes to record-its appreciation and thanks to Mr Penlington and Mrs Topliss for the very able manner in which’ they carried out t|ie.. arrangements for the Golf Ball, •which resulted in a pronounced social success.” . In moving the adoption of the report, a,nd balance-sheet the president said that, financially, last-esason had been a success, but he feared the

current expenses for the coming season would-be heavy.- Furthermore, it was anticipated that there would be a decreasfe in the membership. It • would, therefore, be necessary to proceed very cautiously. In apswer to a member the secretary said that the assets of the club, totalling £122 16s 3d, had beem considerably .written down. - It was resolved, that the incoming ladies’ committee be authorised to purchase, a new kerosene stove. • ■ ■ . . SUBSCRIPTIONS. It was resolved that the subs’criptions for the ensuing year be : Ladies, £2; -men, £3. Country members: Lidies, £1; men, £1 10s (each to pay an entrance fee of £1 Is; non-playing members, 10s). OPENING DAY. The official opening of the club was fixed for Saturday, April 10. > . ? ELECTION OF OFFICERS. ; ,The’; election of officers for the ep-' suing season resulted, as follows :— President, Dr. T. G. Smith (re-elect-ed) ; vice-presideffit, Mr. K. R- Hubbard; club- captain, Mr H. H. Bray ; secretary-treasurer, Mr R. L. Miller; auditor, Mr W. H. 81-akeway; general committee, Messrs S. J. Hedge, C. N. O’Neill, : E. W. Porritt, W. H. Blakeway. '■ ■ ' ' . The various outgoing officers were. the recipients of hearty congratulations' and thanks for their efforts on behalf of the club during the past , season. On the motion, of the president a special, vote of thanks was accorded the secretary (Mr R. L. Miller) for the splendid 'work he had carried out. LIFE MEMBER. It was decided to re6frd the club’s appreciation ot the services rendered by Miss M.:Shaw,over a long term of years, and it wasi unanimously resolved to elect her a life member. SPECIAL MEETING. 'At . a special meeting held subsej? quently the* cAnmittee’s recommendations and amendments to rules 61 13, 15, 17, and 24 were discussed at length. After several minor altera-, tions were ma,de the amendments were confirmed, and the secretary was authorised to forward them to the 'registrar .for incorporation tti the rules of the club. ' . ■ LADIES’ CLUB. A short meeting of the Ladies’ Club was also held, Mis- R. L. Miller presiding over 13 member’s. The following officers were elected for the coming season : President; Mrs, E. W.
