ALLEY MEMORIAL PARK.
RESIGNATION OF TREASURER. It was with very genuine regret that the members of the Hikutaia Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club were forced to accept the resignation of .their treasurer, Mr F. Maxwell, at an extraordinary general meeting held in the District; School on Monday evening. ,
The chairman, Mr W. H. Alley, in his opening remarks voiced the sentiments of the members of the three clubs when, after eulogising the work done by Mr Maxwell during his five years)’ connection, with the club, he expressed the most profound regret that they were losing in one heir ’treasurer and their most enthusiastic supporter. ,Mr Maxwell was, being called away to a new life, he said, and' as he was leaving the district he moved that his resignation be accepted.
Mr A. R. Robinson seconded the •motion' and elaborated bn the previous speaker’s remarks-. Mr Maxwell was very visibly a great sport, unselfish in all things. Not only had he made a mark in club affairs, but also in good citizenship, being ever willing to bring to-bear his business ability in forwarding any scheme beneficial to the district.
Mr E. Elliot endorsed the remarks passed, naming Mr Maxwell “A : good old import,wishing him every success in his new life, and promising him a truly great welcome when he'visited the club.
Mr V. .Young, president of nis Club, also spoke, suggesting that Mr Maxwell be ma.de a life member. Mr J. Elliot, the late secretary Of the club, spoke of his association with the treasurer since the • inception of the club. Even in the face of adverse criticism, he was still an enthusiastic worker, and as treasurer had filled the office with great credit to himself, always being exact, tactful, and thoroughly trustworthy. Mr Elliot moved that in recognition of Mr Maxwell’s great work, and .as. a mark of appreciation, the club elect him an honorary life member, and: that he be presented with a gold medallion bearing the best wishes of the club. The chairman seconded the motion, which was carried with applause.
Mr Maxwell replied thinking the chairman and members for their remarks and best wishes. He stressed the need of keeping up' interest if the club, now* a great credit to the district, was to progress. Oil nominations for the vacant position being asked for. Mr H. S. Valen- . tine, of Wharepoa, was proposed by Mr E. Elliot
Mr Maxwell seconded the motion, and-assured the meeting of Mr Vajentine, ‘S) business capabilities and enthusiasm for the welfare of the club-
Mr Valentine was unahi, mbusly elected amid acclamation. •
