Y.M.C.A. AT WAITOA.
SUPPLIERS’ RESOLUTION.
CANCELLATION OF AGREEMENT.
A meeting o£ the suppliers of the dried milk factory at Waitoa was held in the Waitjoa Hall, Mr Saxon presiding over an attendance exceeding 50. Mr W. Goodfellow' and Mr Kirkman were present. Mr Goodfellow said that the N.Z. Dairy Company had 'realised ,the responsibilities that attached to having a .large number of men employed who had a fair amount of slack .time on their hands. The Y.M.C.A. had been asked to form an industrial br.anch at Waitoa. This liad been done, and the institution had carried on ever since. Apparently some of the shareholders now thought they could get better service at a lower 'cost by altering the administrati&n. The original plan was that ,the company was to supply the building and equipment, and that the movement was to be self-support-ing. The company was to provide the secretary’s salary of £3OO a year, and also £5O a year towards headquarters supervision.
A resolution on the following lines was carried by 23 votes, to 5 : “That the present agreement with the Y.M.C.A. ‘’be terminated, and that it be offered the buildings, with fittings; on the following terms: That the Y.M.C.A. keep the buildings and fittings in good.order and repair; that the rooms be open not less than five nights a week to the staff, free of charge; that' rooms be available for suppliers’ meetings during the day time. In the event of the Y.M.C.A. not agreeing to the proposal, that the cohnnitee communicate with the Returned Soldiers’ Association.”
