OHINEMURI JOCKEY CLUB

JUBILEE MEETING TO-MORROW.

ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETED.

The first day of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club’s jubilee meeting is to take place, on the club’s property. Thames Road, Paeroa, to-morrow, concluding on Wednesday, St. Patrick’s Day. A visit to the racecourse this morning showed that all arrangements for the convenience of the public haye been completed. It now requires' only flue weather .to ensure one of tlie most successful meetings in the history of the club. The Pacroa meeting is regarded by turf patrons as being one of the most popular racing fixtures outside the metropolitan area. This year, with a total sum of £4lOO, including a' gold cup valued at £lOO, to, be distributed, it is small wonder that the acceptances can be considered very satisfactory.

The acceptances for to-morrow show that 126 horses have been paid up for, compared with 108 for the corresponding day last year. The' Ohinemuri Cup, the chief event,, has attracted 18 contestants, as against 12 for the same race last year.

A number of horses have already arrived, and this morning 39 animals were accommodated in the cilub’s loose-boxes in Raroa Road. , The course has received careful attention, and is sajd to be in tip-top condition,. However, a heavy shower of rain would Im very welcome, as it would take the sting out of the ground, lay the dust, and generally brighten up the surroundings. The Railway Department has arto stop the special race trains from Frankton and •. Auckland at the’ old railway, station site on arrival at Paeroa. On, the return journey none of the trains, will [stop at this, site, and all passengers will be required to entrain at the new station.
