MIRACULOUS ESCAPE.
TIM IN RACKS ON JIGGER.
ACCIDENT AT PAEROA STATION.
A very tserious, accident was narrowly averted early yesterday morning at the Paeroa railway station. The Foreman of Works, Mr W. J. Waterhouse, and the head bridgeparpenter, Mr Thomas Harrison, were proceeding along the main line on a jigger to the Paeroa station platform in the rear of a stationary train. Just as they stopped the train commenced to reverse. Although warnings were called out, they were too late, and .the train backed on to the jigger, crushing it and injuring the two men.
The jigger was crushed between the wheels of the carriage and the platform.
Beth men were injured, but luckily not very seriously, receiving cuts, on their arms, and minor bruises. Dr. Little was sent for, and after attention the men were able to leave for their homes.
Both men had a marvellous' escape from death, particularly Mr Waterhouse, the train being pulled up just as. the wheels of the carriage were upon him.
