GAIETY THEATRE PICTURES. TO-NIGHT. IT IS THE LAW. A screen attraction, of unusual merit and interest is to be shown tonight. , It is .the William Fox special production of “It is the Law,” adapted to film form from.one of Broadway's most recent dramatic successes of the riame name. As a stage play it ran many months' in New York. “It i 6 the Law”, is sheer drama, with its theme based on one of those queer quicks of the law that ordains that a man cannot be tried for the same crime twice. Besides a thousand thrilling, moments .throughout the enactment of the drama, it has one bf the most startling and thrilling climaxes ever written into any story for screen, stage, or novel.

COMING ‘THURSDAY, MARCH 4.

THE WHITE SISTER.

Interest is exceedingly keen in Paeroa regarding the coming screening of “The White'Sister,” which is to be shown on Thursday night. When the Metro-Goldwyn Films, Ltd., decided to extend activities to New Zealand) the *. directors decided that a super-produc-tion was necessary, in order that a strong foundation could be established for future business. “The White Sister” was therefore chosen, and the wonderful reception accorded it wherever shown has, convinced the MetroGoldwyn organisation that the New Zealand-public wanti good films taken from well-known novels and stage plays, and that the days of blood and thunder are numbered. Lillian Gish, who interprets the title role, is seen at her best, and John Barrymore, the well-known film star, said; ’"After seeing the production, Miss, Gish has / . surdly brought the tradition of Bernhardt and Duse to the screen.” ,

WIRTH BROS’. CIRCUS.

TRADITIONS STILL MAINTAINED.

On last New Year’s Day Wirth'S Circus entered upon the 4*6th year of its existence, and when the huge .Combination visits Paeroa to-morrow, one night only, opposite the railway statiori, it will be readily recognised tha,t the enviable reputatiori which it has built up during that period is being most capably maintained, the standard of entertainment, presented being on .an even higher plane than ever before. This season’s programme is crammed from' end to end with delights for young and olid, while the menagerie, which has h.ad its inhabitants added to since its, last visit to this, pntre, is a complete education in itself.

With so many high-class acts, it is most difficult to differentiate, but one feature that will 'appeal to the majority of patrons will be the prominent part which the trained elephants play. The young elephants which Wirth Bros, imported ftvm Burmah a couple of years .ago have made /wonderful progress. A truly delightful act is. that in which Peggy and Jumbo , are put through their paces by Miss Eileen' May. All three—to say nothing of the dog—enter into the spirit of their performance in a _ most, captivating manner. Later the same pair pf giant rubber dolls) figure with several companions in a striking scene with' their trainer, Captain Mooney, introducing Miss, Eileen May, lady elephant trainer. Captain Betts’ performing seals and Earl Dudley, the only riding pony in the world, 'are excellent entertainment.. A circus would not be complete without an army of clowns, and Wirths this season are exceptionally fortunate in this direction. Then there are the Honey Sisters, graceful and beautiful gymnasts. , Miss Doris Honey also demonstrates her prowess as a trapeze artist, her performance in mid-air being something to marvel at. There is not room to enumerate all the turns. that go to make Wirth’s entertainment what it is—the premier s|h6w of Australasia. Wirth Bros’, great band is now in charge of Hughie McMahon, the “Emperor) of .the r Cornet,” champipn of the world. Zoo open from 4 to 5 p.m.
