/MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. THE ROADING SCHEME. A meeting of the Patetonga Rate- 4 payers’ Association wajs held last evening, Mr W. Wallace presiding over some 40 persons, including six ladies. The secretary, Mr Al Whiteman, reported the result of. the discussion at the last County Council meeting, at which a deputation from the association had attended, with referencejto the riding reading scheme. The deputation had been very favourably received. The council ha,d gone into the whole matter,, and had instructed its engineer to report on metal supplies and its clerk .to take the necessary stapes- to comply with the settlers’ request( to raise a Iqan of /£lO,000’. The council, had asked that the settlers ascertain where deposits of metal were, situated. It could not spare the engineer for jsuifficient, time to enable him to do the prospecting, * but he would inspect likely spots. The need of adequate ' supplies of metal that could be obtained cheaply wasj stressed by Mr Wilkin, who expressed a doubt as 'to whether, the scheme could be undertaken for-the amount mentioned. ‘ A member said that there was some stone in the Waikaka creek bed. Cr. Mayn, ,the riding member, paid tha.t- there were . many boulders in that and other creeks, but- it was doubtful fi there was sufficient quantity. Several settlers agreed to go prospecting for metal.
