NIGHT-PLAY BUTTONS. CHALLENGERS UNSUCCESSFUL. The night-play challenge buttons competition was advanced a further stage on the local bawling green last night, when a team representing the shopkeepers, comprising J. Brocket, A. E. Say, W. McCullay, and T. H. Hale (skip), 16, suffered defeat by the school, committee team (holders), comprising C. T. Mettam, C- H. coe, G. H. Taylor (substitute for W. Power), and W. Purdie (skip), 25. Considerable interest was taken in the contest, which was fairly even up to the 15th head. From then onward the holders forged steadily ahead, and in ,tl\e succeeding six heads compiled 12 points eventually winning by a comfortable margin of 9 points. TO-MORROW’S FIXTURE. Provided sufficient players are present, the Brenan Memorial Shield fours competition will be proceeded with to-morrow afternoon.
