Fine weather prevailed locally during the week-end. There was a shower of rain on Friday evening, .but, there was scarcely sufficient to lay the dust,/Saturday 'was a bright summer's day, and devotees, of outdoor sport were able uo enjoy their particular pastime to the full. ,Good weather.. prevailed yesterday also, and the various, swim’ming poods adjacent to ! the. town were liberally patronised. Crowds: of people also- journeyed to Wajhi Beach.

The conference of delegates from , the Ohinemuri County Council and ■the' Paeroa Borough Council, which was held on Saturday morning. tosider the allocation of the - cost of erecting the 'new traffic, bridge over the Ohinemuri-River at.Paerqa proved abortive. >■ The matter is now resting,, pending the calling of , a. special meeting of the County Council..
The which appear elsewhere in'these ■ columns, for the Ohinemuri Jockey Club’s 'jubilee meeting, which is ta be held at Paeroa oni March >l3 and 17, are considered very satisfactory. . The Ohinemuri Cup, which is the principal event set down • for decision on the first day; has -37 horses, nominated, as against 30 for the same event I art year. The Paeroa Handicap, which carries' the big money the second day, has 40 horses nominated, as, against 43 last year. Acceptances for the first day., close on Monday,. March 8. :
The borough workmen made a stare this morning with the task of repairing .the worst holes in the Belmont Road footpath. Minor repairs have been, also carried out in Princes Street. , '
A party of eight local residents motored through to Arapuni’ yesterday, and a thoroughly esnjoyable day was spent. . The '.hydro-electricity station at Hora-hota was visited en route. ■ The return journey was accomplished in two .and three-qiiarter hours,. The party was fortunate in that on arrival a.t Arapuni no difficulty was found in obtaining permis; sion to explore the huge works in progress. ' .
The team seletted!, to represent the Paeroa Volunteer . Fire Brigade, comprising Lieut E. Moore and Firemen E. Martin, C. Rolton, and H, Pbbinson, together with Captain W. Moore as delegate, will leave Paeroa, tp-mor-row evening for Wellington, en route to Dunedin, where they are tp take part in the competitions that are being arranged in connection with the South Seas Exhibition. T.he team car? ried out its final practices on Saturday afternoon, in the presence of a fair gathering of spectators. The times recorded for the different events Were well up to competition standard, and Captain Moor.e states that he is, confident the members of the team will give a good account of themselves,.
