CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
MEETING OF PAEROA BODY. The regular meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce was held at the Coronation Chambers last night, Mr E. W. Porritt presiding in the absence of the president (Mr P. Williams). There was an attendance of 14 members. PAEROA HOSPITAL. The Hon. Minister of Health, writing from Wellington on January 6, stated that the delay in proceeding with the erection of the Paeroa maternity and casualty hospital no doubt had arisen from the fact that the writer could not see his way to consent to the erection of a wooden building. The Director-General had proposed to visit Thames' and interview the board on the subject, but was unable to do s.o. The letter concluded: "The Thames board, however, has been again informed that the building must be erected in brick, and that it should proceed with the work.”
The chairman said .that the matter had been replied to satisfactorily by the department.
RAILWAY STATION TELEPHONE. The secretary, General Post Office, Wellington, replying to the request for the installation of a public .telephone ca,binet on the platform of the Paeroa railway station, stated that the department regretted, in view of the prospective deficiency on the working of the installation, that .the expenditure involved would not be warranted.
The chairman intimated that the department could only guess a.t the revenue to be derived. It was decided tO’ leave the matter in abeyance until the opening of the hew Dost office.
