HORATIO BOTTOMLEY.

HIS CHANCE OF RELEASE.

INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE WORKING.

Influential! persons have again been endeavouring for, a long time past to secure the release from prison of Horatio Bottomley, ,and are in a sanguine mood on this occasion, but a gentleman who paid a recent visit Jtb Maidstone Prison tells, me that the chances of his release are very remote (states a correspondent of the Liverpool Post). “I do not think there is the slightest probability of him securing an early release,” he said.

“Bottomley has, been in hospital for a long time past, and though his health is not as good as, it might be, every effort is being made by the medical authorities at the prison—acting on very high authority—to do all that can be done to keep him sufficiently well to prevent the possibility of health being made an excuse for early release. THE SMUGGLED ARTICLES. “The fact that he smuggled out of prison an article for one of the newspapers some time ago was regarded in official circles asi a reason for net allowing the usual remission of a sentence, and serious complaint whs made in the Press, that this had hot happened in Bottomley’s case. "He gets one-fourth remission of his sentence, and in the ordinary course he will be released on license "after having served five and a quarter ye arts;

“At present it is the intention to bring about his. release after he has served for that period.

“The latest reports of Bottomley’s health are to the effect that he is better than he has been for a long period. He has some very influential friends, but sc. far the Home Office has withstood all appeals for his Tele aise.

“Mrs, Bottomley is, I understand, at present in the south of France. She disposed of The Dicker, Sussex, some time ago.”"
