MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The Hauraki Plains Tennis Association. met at Ngatea on Wednesday, Mr B. Frecklington presiding over Messrs A. H. McClean, G. B. McMillan, Mack- • low, W. P. Wylde, and A. R. Vowles, hon. secretary. THE ZONE SYSTEM. expressed pleasure at the successful result of playing the Laidlaw Cup and Hayward Shield, competitions under the zone system. It had relieved the tension during the busy season and the holiday, and had been much appreciated by most of the clubs. .TROPHY DONATED. The secretary reported .that the proprietors of the Hauraki Plains, Gazette had agreed to his suggestion to donate a trophy for the ladies’ championship singles competition. On the motion of the president the donors of the trophy were accorded a hearty vote of thanks, delegates' expressing the opinion that the provision of an annual challenge competition trophy would stimulate interest. THE' COMPETITIONS. The date for the receipt of entries for the championship singles' and dicap singles and doubles competii tipns was fixed at February 15. Entries will only be received through club secretaries, and when accompanied by the entrance fees. The entrance fees were fixed at 2s 6d for the championship singles, 3s for the men’s handicap singles and 2s ■for ladies, and sfel and 4s for the handicap Mr.A. R. Vowles was appointed handicapper. The handicap matches will be played in sections east and west of the river, and the draw will be made at the association meeting on February 22. The secretary and the Ngatea Club delegates! were deputed ,to make the draw for the championship singles as soon as possible after the entries are received. MATCH WITH AUCKLAND. The secretary reported that no notification had yet been received from Auckland in regard to a match, but in all probability notice would be received shortly. The question to be decided was whether a match or a three-day tournament should, be arranged. A committee, comprising Messrs Frecklintgon, McClean, Vowles, and Wylde, was appointed with power to deal' with the whole matter. On the motion of the president Mr A. H. McClean was appointed vicepresident of the association to fill the vacancy caused by the departure of Mr Anderjson. HIRE OF COURTS. It was decided ;to offer the Ngatea club £1 per court for the use of its courts on Saturdays and 10s per court on week daysi for important association matches, the association to have the right to all gate receipts. Odd handicap or championship games oh week days to be free.
