HOPAI DEFEATS MANGAWHERO. PATETONGA FORFEITS. The only association tennis match played pn the Plains on Saturday last was in the “A” grade competition be; tween the Hopai and Mangawhero cfhits at Hopai. The Patetonga “B” team wa£ supposed to play at Waitakaruru, but failed to put in an appearance. Following are the scores of the “A’ grade match, the names of the Hopai players being mentioned first: — Mens Singles.—W. Murphy beat J. Duffy, 7—l; S. Coppins beat G. P,aton, 7 2 ; A. R. Vpwles beat E. Pullman, 7 i; E'_ Coppins beat A. J. McDon9 4 t Ladieis’ Singles.— Mrs Speedy lost to Miss Duffy, 4—7 ; Miss Costello lost to Mrs Bird, 3 — 7. . Combined Doubles.—D. Murphy ahd Miss Wade beat G. Garry and Miss Wallace, 7—4; G. Birkenhead and Mrs Motion beat L. Clark and Miss McDonald, 7—l. Men’s. Doubles.— Murphy and Coppins beat Duffy and Parton, 9 4'; E. Coppins and Vowles beat McDonald and Pullman, 9—B ; D. Murphy and Birkenhead beat Garry and Clark, Ladies’ Doubles.—Mrs Speedy and Miss Costello Host to Miss Duffy and Mrs Bird, o—7. The second s.et was not played owing to the lateness. Totals: Hopaj, 9 sets, 78 gamep; Mangawhero, 3 sets, 47 games. The state of the competition now is that Hopai and Turua are equal in the “A” grade, and Turua has a match with Mangawhero to play on Saturday next at Mangawhero. In the "B” grade competition Kerepeehi and Waitakaruru have both won by default from Pate,tonga, and., will play off at Kerepeehi on Saturday next.
KEREPEEHI BEATS NETHERTiON. On Saturday last members of the Kerepeehi Tennis Club journeyed to Netherton for a friendly match with the Netherton Club. The visitors were victorious, securing 15 sets to 1. Following are the scores, the Kerepeehi players' being mentioned first. Men’s Singles.—H. Candy beat Carter, 9—3; R. Fawcett beat Potter, 9—i; B. Frecklington beat B. Johnson, 9_3 ; c. R. Hudson beat Maloney, 9—4 ; G. Crisp beat R. Morrison, 9 —2; C. Fawcett beat E. Williams, 9—B. Ladies’ Singles.—Miss L. Nicholson beat Miss. Halligan, 7—2; Mrs O'Loughlin beat Mrs Richmond, 7—2 , Mrs C. Hudson beat Miss Johnson, 7—o ; Mrs C. Fa,wcett beat Miss Sarjant, 7—5.
Men’s Doubles.—Hudson and Frecklington beat Potter and Maloney, 7_4 Fawcett and Candy lost to Carter and Johnson, 3 —7.
Ladies’ Doubles. —Miss Nicholson and Mrs O’Loughlin beat Miss Halligan and Mrs Richmond, 7—l. Combined Doubles —Crisp .and Mrs O’Loughlin beat Johnson and Mrs Richmond, 7—2; Candy and Miss Nicholson bea.t Carter and Miss Halligan, 7—3 ; Hudson and Mrs Hudson beat Potter and Miss Johnson, 6 —2. Total: Kerepeehi, 119 games; Netherton, 49 games.
