PAEROA DOMAIN.
MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Domain Board was held on Thursday evening, the chairman (Mr W. Marshall) presiding over Messrs B, Edwards, J. W. Sileock, G. P. de Castro, P. B. Brenap, F. El Flatt, J. Pinder,' 11. J. Hare, EJ A. Porritt, and the secretary (Mr ,W. C. Alexander). REST-ROOM FURNITURE. Mr Sileock, in reporting on the various, improvements, said '.that his estimate for furnishing the women’s rest-room was £8 ss, He was of opinion that the expenditure of so much money was not warranted. Observations had shown that the room was very little used by the public other than those who were using .the playing area.s. In place of a settee he favoured the erection of a comfortable, wide bench on one side of the room, and also two or three chairs and a small table? A mirror and a towel-rack had already been affixed. Air Hare thought that a bench would be of little use ; a, few chairs would be more suitable! This view was, shared by Mr de Castro, who tsaid that he was of the opinion that the expenditure should be kept down to the minimum, in view of the other matters that required attention. The chiarman intimated -that the money for furniture would not be taken from the domain loan fund. The general account would stand the expenditure. On the motion of Mr Edwards it was decided to expend a- sum not exceeding £2 10s on furnishing. In reply to Mr Flatt the chairman said that it would be the duty of the superintendent tp see that the building was locked at night. CUTTING OF HAY; Air Pinder asked what had happened to .the hay that had been harvested this season. He understood that it had been decided to harvest it for the council’s horses. ; The chairman said that the hay had been damaged, .and was scarcely worth carting away. It had neairly all been burned in the domain. MACKAY STREET GATE. Mr de Cas,tro said that recently the board had paid for repairs to the double gate at the Mackay Street entrance, and he had, noticed that some of the panels had been broken again. He was of the opinion that the A. and P. Society, should be asked to pay for tlie damage done. Mr Edwards asked Mr de Castro how he knew the society had broken the gate. Air de Castro confessed that he did not know for certain, but “isomebody had caused the damage.” The chairman said that if the dam-, age could be sheeted home to any particular person or body the board would certainly enter a claiml The trouble was that the entrance was really too narrow for vehicular traffic. The entrance near the fire station had been improved a,nd sanded, and he thought that the traffic during the holding of the next show might be diverted to that entrance, and the Afackay Street entrance kept for pedestrians. GENERAL. Replying to Mr de Castro the chairman said that he had not had an opportunity of going into the question of renovating the conveniences hear the bowling club pavilion, but the matter haxl hot been lost sight of. It was intended to give the paths another tarring and sanding at an early date, and he believed a permanent job would then result. Mr Sileock reported that a (small holding pen had been erected at a best of 35s in the corner of the playing fields, and .an additional wire had been added to the fence! i SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. The following report for .the quarter ended December 31 was’submitted by the superintendent, Mr W. Hamilton :— “The three months that have passed since my last report are the busiest months of the year. My time has mainly been occupied in the cutting and rolling of the greens and the mowing of grass. “Afy time will soon be occupied now with .the cutting of the hedges on Thames Road. I expect I will have to jstart sooner than usua.l owing to the growth interfering with the publie.
“With reference ..to the gorse and blackberries on Primrtfee Hill, I would like to say that I think it advisable that it be ploughed or grubbed again. If this was done now it would save a much more difficult! task later on ; and, again, at this time of the year it would prove a., greater success than later bn.”
