HIKUTAIA. CHALLENGE TENNIS MATCH. Tlie local team resumed matches when the second challenge for the Howell Williams Memorial Shield was played on Saturday last. The Ngatea team journeyed to Hikutaia but the home .team succeeded in retaining the shield. Mr Bertelsotn, president of the Ngatea Club,’expressed their appreciation of the hospitality shown them, and wished the Hikutaia Club every success in the future. Mr JI. Elliot, selector of’the Hikutaia team, suitably replied, and he wished Ngatea, as, a young club, good luck and said ,tha,t he hoped that they w’ould be with them for the ensuing years. Following are the details : —> Men’s Singles.—H. Morrison beat F. Nicol, 6—o ; C. Gibb lost to A. E. Ludlow, 4—6 ; G. Gibb beat T. Alderppn, 6—4'; Ci Elliot beat R. Cornthwaite, 6— Ladies’ Singles.—Miss M. Gibb beat Mrs Reed, 6—4 ; Miss, G. Gibb beat Mrs Beitelsen, 6 —o. Combined Doubles.—Paetai and Miss’" B. Elliot beat’ Hutchinson and Miss Rountree, 6—2 ; Rare and Miss Smith beat Basham and Misjs- McDuff, 7— . Ladies’ Doubles.—Misses Gibb beat Mesdames Reed and Bertelsen, 6 2 ; Misses Elliot and Smith beat Miss.es Rountree and McDuff, 6—■%. Men’s Doubles.—Morrison and Gibb beat Nicol and Ludlow’, 6—3 ; Gibb and Elliot beat Aldenson and Cornthwaite, 6—4 ; Paetai and Rare beat Hutchinson and Basham, 6—2. Totals: Hikutaia, 12 sets, 77 games; Ngatea, 1 set, 3'5 games.
