/ MEETING OF PLAINS BODY. ART UNION PROPOSAL. A general meeting of the committee of the Hauraki Plains A. and P. Association was held at Kerepeehi on Friday evening.x In the absence of the .president Mr H. Hoff was appointed to the chair. The following membens were present: Mess,rs J. Murdock, W. Herkt, J. Hands, W. Shilton, A. McMillan, A. J. Innes, C. Pearce, A. McConnell, and W. Booth (secretary). ART UNION. Several letters were received from the Bank of New Zealand, Thames, in regard to the association’s request for it to secure £5OO worth of alluvial gold for the proposed art- union. The bank was agreeable provided sufficient approved guarantors were secured.

The secretary reported that he had secured five additional guaraptbnd. . A member commented on tlie fact ’that the negotiations were-with the Bank of New Zealand, and not with the National Bank, which had an agency in Kerepeehi and proposed to establish a branch.

It wa,s decided to approach the bank for an overdraft of £6OO to provide the £5OO prize-money for the art union and £lOO for working expenses. Mr J. Murdock pointed out .that the secretary could not be expected to carry on with the work of conducting the art union without remuneration, A salary should be granted. Mr Booth said .that the matter could well be left until lateA He would be content to see .an outsider appointed.

It was agreed that Mr Booth continue to. act as organiser, and that the question of salary be deferred until .the next meeting.

In response to a question by the the opinion' was expressed by members that the project should be launched as soon as possible. The secretary was instructed to ascertain from the Minister, of Internal Affairs the latest regulations and restrictions concerning the conduct of art unions.

The amount of the several prizep and the cost of the tickets was left to be settled at the next meeting, which would be a general meeting of the association. EASTER SPORTS. Th matter of holding tlie annual sports meeting on Easter Monday was discussed. Members stressed the advisability of holding the sports but deplored the lack of interest displayed. It was decided to hold a special meeting in a week’s time to consider the question. GENERAL. Arising out of a discussion as to ways and means of raising funds for the association, it wa,s decided that a Thames concert party be invited to viisit Kerepeehi, and that if this did not eventuate a local concert be organised.

The secretary was instructed to seek information as to. whether it would be possible to have a publican’s booth at the sports meeting, and also information concerning the appointment of the licensing committed.
