AUSTRALIA’S INTEREST.
DRAW TO NEW ZEALAND.
SIR DOUGLAS MAWSON’S OPINION.
Druing his brief stay in Hamilton, Sir Douglas Mawson, when interviewed on Wednesday by a "Times”' reporter, expressed great interest in New Zealand, and particularly in afforestation enterprise. "The country is coming very prominently into notice in Australia in recent years,” said Sir Douglas, "and Australians appreciate the fact that ,the Dominion has had the benefit of wise rulers. The Commonwealth," he said, "had pleasant memories of the Hon. Richard Seddon, ■ ,and his, memory was pleasantly brought home to the present generation by the name of prominent streets and suburbs, particularly in Victoria. The memory of the late Mr Massey w,as also revered, and the news of the death of New Zealand’s Great War Prime Minister came a shock to anyone who appreciated a noble and outstanding character. “I am looking forward to many surprises in New Zealand of a pleasant nature, said Sir Douglas, "particularly in. connection with afforestation, for you have evidently cultivated the forest sense in the Dominion.”
