INTER-CLUB COMPETITIONS
SATURDAY’S MATCHES. The .tennis matches set down by the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association as the finals, of the inter-club competitions under the zone system were played on Saturday in good weather. In the eastern ‘zone Turua “A” grade secured a win from Kerepeehi of 11 sets 1 to two, but in the “B” grade this score was reversed. Kaihere was una-ble to get a team to play Patetonga, and the match was deferred. The western zone matches resulted in wins being secured by the Hopai “A” team and the Waitakaruru “B” grade team by seven sets to six. Mangawhero, Hopai, and Turua, teams being the winners of the “A” grade matches and Kerepeehi, Patetonga, apd Waitakaruru the “Bi” grade, a draw wil'l be made to-day <o that, the semifinals can be played on Saturday next. Details of the Turua-Kerepeehi matches, are as follows “A” grade, played at Turua. Men’is Singles : G. McMillan beat H. Candy, 9 —7 ; G. Elvin lost to R. Fawcett, 5 —9 ; J. Howairth beat G- Crisp, 9—3 ;J. Devereaux beat B. Frecklington, 9 —5.
Ladies’ Singles: Mrs, Clotworthy beat Miss Nicholson, 7 —l ; Mrs Scott lost tO'Mrs O’Lpughlin, 3 —7. Combined Doubles: C. Scott and Miss Clotworthy beat Mr and Mrs. Hudson, 7—2 ; F. Bell and Mrs. McMillan z beat Nicholson and Mrs. Fawcett, 7—2.
Men's, Doubles : McMillan and Howarth beat Candy ajnd Fawcett, 9 —7 ; Devereaux and Elvin beat Crisp and Frecklington, 9—7; Scott and Bell beat Hudson and Nicholson, 9 —7.
Ladies’ Doubles: Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Clotworthy beat Mrs, O’Loughlin and Miss Nicholspn, 7 —5 ; Miss E. Clotworthy and Mrs. McMillan bea,t Mrs. Fawcett and Mrs. Hudson, 7—5. Totals: Turua, 11 sets, 97 games ; Kerepeehi, 2 sets, 67 games. “B” Grade, played at Kerepeehi:— Men’s Singles: W. Murphy beat Dr. Lange, 9 —B ;J. Adluni beat Dunsford, 9—3 ; J. Kidd heat J. Mules, 9—4'; S. 'Hira beat J. Green, 9—2.
Ladies’ Singles : Miss Frecklington lost to Miss Croon, 2—7; Mrs Hira lost to Mrs McKenzie, 4 —7 ; Combined Doubles : Smart and Mrs Kidd beat McConnell and Mis,s N. Schmidt, 7—2 ; W. Kidd and Mrs Adlum beat Clotworthy and Miss R Schmidt, 7—l.
Men’s Doubles : Murphy and Adlum beat Lange and Dunsford, 9—4 ;J. Kidd and S. Hira beat Mules and Green, 9 —2 ; Smart and W r Kidd beat Clotworthy and McConnell, 9—5.
Ladies’ Doubles : Mrs Hira and Miss Frecklington beat Miss Croon and Mrs McKenzie, 7—6 ; Mrs, Adlum and Mrs W. Kidd bea t t Misses R. and N. Schmidt, 7—2. Totals: Kerepeehi, 11 sets, 97 games ; Turua, 2 sets, 53 games. NGATEA V. ’ KOPUARAHI.
The Ngatea team utilised its bye and played a friendly match atKopuarahi, being beaten by 10 sets to-3. Following are the scores:— Men’s Singles : J. B. McMillan beat Fl Nicol, 6 —3 ; J. Law beat A. Combined Doubles: S. Baigent and Miss L. Green beat G. Basham and Mrs Cornthwaite, 6—3 ; F. Dibble and Mrs McMillan beat Lowson and Miss Lux, 6—5. Men’s Doubles : J. B McMillan and O.
