A progressive pairs tournament has been arranged by the Paeroa Bowling Club on the local green for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

A mild diversion in the main street occurred shortly after eleven o’clock this morning as a result of a runaway. A small roan horse attached to a sulky, the property of .the weflknown Maori Haora, was, .tied to a post outside Messrs Masters and Son’s shop, z while the driver, a Maori lad named Willi.am Parakau, wais making some purchases. The flapping of a verandah blind frightened the animal, and caused it to break away. Finding itself free the frigntened house careered along Normanby Road into Belmont Road, and along its entire length, before being stopped by Barney Raukopa near the entrance to Taylor’s Avenue. No damage resulted to the horse, gig, or harness. It was remarkable the way the runaway missed the traffic, which was fairly heavy in the street at .the time.
