The of the secondary department were assembled in the science room when the visitors arrived. After congratulating the pupils, on the loyal, way they had worked during the year Mr Pascoe said that it was very gratifying to the committee, and he felt s,ure to the parents also, to receive such splendid reports of the secondary department. He said it was imperative that parents should allow l their children, on 'leaving the primary school, to obtain a secondary education,- if only for a couple of yeais, if they were to take their rightful place in the community, and become estimable citizens. The Paeroa high school hold a position second to none in the province, and- he t'’U|stcd that the pupil®, would always try and maintain the high standard which had prevailed. To those who were not returning next year he wished good, fortune and plenty of hard work on. whatever vocation they might embark. HEADMASTER’S ADDRESS.

On taking leave of the children Mr Taylor said that he wished to express his, keen appreciation of the way they had all worked, and tor the loyalty and help given the teaching staff. The duties of the prefects had been well carried out during the year, not only in the school, but outside as well, and by their example and assistance much had been done towards maintaining the morale and tone of the school. So far as sports were concerned, the high school had enjoyed a very successful year, and he wished to offer his, congratulaitons to those who had participated and won success in the various games. He expressced the hope that as, many as possible would come back next year, not only to cram lessons, but for the sake of character building and the acquisition of higher ideals;

In conclusion Mr Taylor thanked the staff for the willing assistance and hearty co-operation that had been given during the strenuous year just concluded, and said that he wished to p'ay special tribute to Miss H. Taylor and Mr E. G, Preston, of the secondary department, for the way they had worked and encouraged their pupils to work enthusiastically to gain success. The year just ended had been a difficult one for teacherp and scholars, and in his opinion they had come through with flying colours. An exchange of seasonable greetings between the headmaster, staff, and committee then followed, at the con elusion of which Jack Conblily, on behalf of the pupils, thanked the teachers and wished them the compliments'of the season and a happy vacation.
