MEETING OF PAEROA BODY. . The men; ’.ly meeting vf the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce wajs’ helu in the Coronation Chambers on Thursday evening, .the president '(Mr -P.>Williams) presiding over .an attend-; ance of 15 members. PAEROA HOSPITAL. On the motion of Mr E. W. Ferrite it was resolved that a/letter be gent to the Inspector-General of Hospitals recommending that his decision tohave the Paeroa- hospital, built in brick be maintained, and that he be requested to point out to the objecting < local bodies that to build in brick ■ would lessen the cost, of maintenance as .against building in wood; also that Paeroa was on the direct line of the main highways through the Hauraki Plains, and a hospital in Paeroa- would, be more central for the Hauraki Plains, as well as for the Thames ■Valley. >' Mr H. J. Hare said that the Hauraki 'Plains County Council, which had to find nearly 40' per cent, of the main- , tenance, wajs solidly opposed to building in brick. The Thames County Council and Thames Borough were also opposed to brick. Mr L. E. Cassrels pointed out that the upkeep of brick would be less. than if built in wood, and he could not understand the objection. ? ? In reply to the president Mr. Hare said that he had always strenuouafly. opposed the Hauraki Plains, County Council sending forward resolutions' to the board opposing the hospital .at, Paeroa. - . The resolution was carried. BAND ROTUNDA. * The question of the removal of the band rotunda from its position' in front of the new post office, was discussed at length. Several members pointed out that the rotunda was certainly detracting from the appearance of the post office. ' Mr Hare thought that there was plenty of time yet before asking .the ■ Borough Council to remove it. On the motion of Mr Silcbek further action in the. matter Wats deferred until the next meeting. HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION. The question of thq statutory half- , holiday for Paeroa was briefly discussed. Mr A. E- Say said that he favoured Saturday being the half-day. Mr W. McCullay hald opposite views, Mr Hare said that the Netherton people would like to see the shops open on Saturday. The president said that in his opinion Saturday was the idea! day to be • observed as, a half-holiday.'-Mr s. J. Hedge.said that Paeroa was on a very different footing to Te Aroha. From his own knowledge Te Aroha had'benefited little, so far as trade was concerned, since it reverted to .the late night being on Saturday. Owing to the meeting not being sufficiently representative, of the busi-’ ness. people no action w r as taken. ; ■ < GREETINGS.
